LITURGICAL MINISTERS NEEDED!
Ministers are needed for our weekend liturgies especially in the areas of altar servers and
ushers. The Art and Environment Team is also being expanded and will be gathering in
the next few weeks to discuss plans for creating a warm and prayerful worship setting for
the upcoming year. If you are gifted in any of these areas and wish to share these gifts with the parish, please
contact Brian (‘New-B’) at the parish office to learn more about the ministry as well as upcoming training and
support sessions.
Altar Server Training, Updating, and Appreciation
All future and current altar servers are asked to save Wednesday, June 20th for a special event focusing on the
ministry of being an altar server. This late afternoon/early evening gathering will include training for all who
wish to become altar servers, an important in-service for those currently in the ministry, followed by pizza and
laser tag as a recognition and thanks for all you do for the parish! Watch for the specific details next week, but
for now make sure to save the date!
DEFICIT REDUCTION Summer is definitely here—maybe not on the calendar yet, but certainly in the
air. Attendance is light but the doors are still open.
Watch for your deficit reduction envelope in your envelope packet or through
a parish-wide mailing. Prayerfully consider how you can help the parish thrive
in these leaner months.
IRELAND TRIP
Because of the response to the Ireland trip, the tour company has extended the deadline to
June 16th. Contact Sandy at the parish office, ext. 308 or [email protected].
Have you ever felt judged by your family? St. John Paul II noted that the family "is the cradle
of life and love" (On the Lay Members of Christ's Faithful, 40). Yet unmet expectations and
divergent priorities can cause tension in even the most loving family situations. This is true for
us, and it was true for Jesus!
In today's Gospel, Jesus has returned home to Nazareth. A large crowd gathered, and Jesus
finds himself facing stiff opposition from his family. This was likely Jesus' large, extended fam-
ily. The Semitic language has no specific words for extended relatives, so everyone is "brother"
or "sister." The entire clan has gotten wind of Jesus' preaching, and they are not amused. "They
set out to seize him, for they said, 'He is out of his mind.'" To make matters worse, the religious
authorities even accuse Jesus of being possessed by a demon. It's a mess by any standards.
The family's perspective is perhaps understandable. In Jewish culture, teachers and scribes un-
derwent intensive schooling and apprenticeships, none of which Jesus had done. The family
knew Jesus the carpenter, not Jesus the rabbi. For them, Jesus' bold preaching threatened the reputation of their family!
Jesus' words to his family can seem controversial. "Who are my mother and my brothers?" Yet Jesus knows what he is
about. He has always known he would be about the business of his Heavenly Father. And what is that business? It is the
business of the new covenant and the Kingdom of God. In this Kingdom, we are all adopted sons and daughters of the King.
Jesus begins, even now, to expand the perspective of his listeners. Being welcomed into this family does not depend on our
families of birth or ethnic origin, but a wholehearted commitment to "do the will of God."

Spiritual Direction
Have you heard of the ancient Catholic prac-tice of Spiritual Direction? Very early in our history and through the centuries individuals have sought out companions and guides for their spiritual growth. Today, women and men, lay folk and members of the clergy rely on trained spiritual companions to walk with them on the spiritual journey. If you would like more information but cannot attend that even-ing, email Diane Saunders or Cathy Olds [email protected]. Come and see what spiritual direction is all about.

STEWARDSHIP AT ST. BRIDGET
With the Holy Spirit alive in us, we are loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, faithful, and generous. Yet each of us different. Thus, we go forth with the Holy Spirit following differ-ent paths, each of us with a different contri-bution. Even with our differences, we come together as one body. Jesus asks each per-son to go forth and serve the Lord our God. Share your gifts. Share your faith. Give, so that through the actions of the Body of Christ, others may learn and do the same.
In the second reading it says: “Everything indeed
is for you, so that the grace bestowed in abundance
on more and more people may cause the thanks-
giving to overflow for the glory of God.” Learn
what graces G od bestows on marriage. Attend an upcoming
Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend. To apply online,
and for weekend dates visit www.wwmearizona.com
Note to Parish Envelope Users: It appears
when the Diocese has a special collection many
people are, at times, placing their weekly tithe in
the Diocese Special Collection envelope. This
is easy to do since they are right together in your
envelope package. It is important to use the
correct envelope so your offering is posted to the
correct account. Thank you.
