Spring / Summer 2014
Welcome to the new-season issue of Muse. Over the following pages you’ll find all you need to help you steer your way through Spring/Summer 2014 collections. From New York to Paris, Muse is the time to reflect on the season’s biggest trends, track our favorite catwalk moments from fashion week, and share what’s coming soon in-store.
Since our last edition, so many new and exciting things happened to make your shopping experience even more convenient and pleasurable, Alothman Boutique has new opening hours, now you can shop our selection anytime between 10:00AM and 9:30PM Saturdays to Thursdays.
Also, Alothman Outlet stores, ready-to-wear, shoes, and accessories, have moved to a bigger and better location! The new Alothman Outlet store, now located at the basement of Maryam complex in Salmiya, has more selection on offer, all up to 90% off.
We have held a couple of in-store events too; we were thrilled to host a trunk show for the master of feminine silhouette French designer Roland Mouret for Spring/Summer 2014. And in support of local emerging businesses, we provided Shakshooka Market, which is a weekly pop-up farmers market, with the space and set-up to host their event in-store. More exciting events coming up this year so stay tuned.
As a brand, Alothman Boutique spans many platforms — beyond our newly revamped website there’s our instagram, Facebook, Twitter, tumblr, and Pinterest (Alothman Fashion). And yet, this is only the beginning. Our path stretches far off into the distance. In a few months we will be re-launching our smartphone/iPad app where you’ll be able to communicate with us directly, in addition to other genius features.
There will be much more coming in the near future. And we will continue to work passionately and tirelessly to serve you, our clients.
Thank you for joining us on this remarkable journey, one step at a time.
Embrace your inner '60s starlet and try a striking mix of stripes. Also, feel free to spice it up with other classic prints like polka dots or florals.
Spring/Summer is the time to embrace stripes according to many designers at Paris, London, and New York Fashion Week. Stripes make a graphic statement, day or night, and contrary to popular fashion belief, all body shapes can pull them off with the right styling.

Working up a sweat might not be your style, but a sporty energy and an athletic aesthetic clearly took over the runways by storm, most notably, tennis-inspired dresses, drawstring pants, and varsity jackets.
Choose basic silhouettes with sporty twists

S SWEET SO
RBET Sheer fabrics and lace-evoked styles were very popular choices with designers this season. The feeling was feminine and floaty and perfect for spring layering. go for light-as-air materials that are perfect for hot summer days.
For Spring/Summer 2014, designers were hooked on sugary-sweet sorbet hues. A romantic summer style that is best pulled together with neutral colors, which makes them even more delicious to the eyes.
The key to pull off this trend in a classy way is layering.
Balance the see through pieces with opaque ones. keep your overall look clean
and choose a minimum of metallic accessories.

Speak to your sweet side with any combination of pastels and sorbet shades,

What is it about fashion that appeals
to you the most?
Your understated way with glamour, and the subtle
elegance of your clothes, appeals to a whole generation
of women. What is your design philosophy? Fashion is the most
inspiring industry - You can explore all your creativity, business savvy and social
understanding all in the one career.
You have recently collaborated with Manolo Blahnik for A/Wr 2012-
13. If you could collaborate with any other designer, who
would it be and why?
Your Spring/Summer 2014 runway collection was held in a beautiful art gallery on Bond Street, what made you choose this specific venue?
Do you remember the first time
you saw someone wearing something
you designed?How did it feel?
The white space of the Halcyon, with its symmetry, high ceilings and intimacy, created a relaxed but chic
atmosphere/aesthetic, which suited the collection perfectly.
The Emilia Wickstead spin is in the details. It's these touches,
which give my designs that modern twist on classic inspirations. There still needs to be that
point of difference to a timeless silhouette, a quirk, something that
makes it unique.
I felt so proud; it's just the best feeling. And to be honest, I still get it all the time. I am always so thrilled when I see my clothing on clients and friends. Recently it has been
absolutely unreal seeing my work on the likes of Caitlin Fitzgerald at the Golden Globes and Diane Kruger at the Autism
Speaks Ball last year!
Miuccia Prada is an absolute inspiration to me; it would be
a dream to work with her!

When I started working with this collection I revisited the classic poem ‘Till Havs’ (Out to Sea), performed by the Swedish opera singer Jussi Björling in a most dynamic way. It’s a song about the different moods of the sea, and it relates to me in a personal way. I have always been surrounded by water where I live. Its power and unpredictability is kind of the same as in the music that has always been a vital part of my life.

The Spring/Summer 2014 collection was initially inspired by Japanese Boro clothing: everyday garments, patched and pieced to prolong their usefulness for the farmers and fishermen who wore them. In this season, Altuzarra explores the concept of the beauty of the utilitarian, and the elegance of the imperfect. Boro, the transformation of the pragmatic into the artistic became a metaphor and the origin of this collection’s inspiration.

My Spring 2014 collection is primarily inspired by a recent trip to Mexico's Isla Mujeres: the “Island of Women.” I took influence from the shapes and imagery of grass-lined huts, picturesque color-blocked residential streets, stonework, and the locally abundant dahlia. This season, Clover Canyon rediscovers Southern California, looking on its native landscape with new eyes, and indulging the domestic pleasures. Clean, crisp and airy, the collection conjures the forward-looking architecture and design of California’s mid century heyday, referencing homes such as John Lautner’s iconic Chemosphere in Los Angeles, and the work of household modernists Charles and Ray Eames. Southern California’s legendary light is paid homage, as well prismatically, via the inspiration of light artists such as Robert Irwin, Dan Flavin, and James Turrell.

The starting point of this collection was to design pieces that are both modern and timeless. Spring/Summer 2014 is centered on the romance and vibrant colors embedded in Latin culture. The Spanish Rose – a symbol of love and beauty - plays an integral role throughout this collection and is present in several shades and hues using various techniques of embroidery. The Spring 2014 collection celebrates the preservation of the elegant woman, who has always been a source of intrigue and inspiration, and presenting her in a modern context. I looked to abstract and modernize the concept of the idealized woman one who is bold, colorful and sensual with a hint of danger. With that in mind I became transfixed by Photographer Bert Stern’s Last Sitting with Marilyn Monroe. Stern’s arresting images that play with curves, transparency and skin represent one of the most beautiful yet melancholic expressions of the female form.

The Spring/Summer 2014 collection draws inspiration from interior design in the 1970s with a focus on understated domesticity as the central theme. Lightness and ease are of the utmost importance. The mood is serene and polished juxtaposing hard and soft, technology and craft.

Rachel Zoe

For Spring/Summer 2014, Rachel Zoe takes the modern jet set girl on a safari; a traveling muse wearing her femininity with effortless confidence. This collection offers a new take on exotic glamour, incorporating ethereal elements, polished silhouettes, innovative materials, and blending classic with contemporary.
My Spring 2014 collection was inspired by the modern jetset girl on a safari. For me, it was important to incorporate ethereal elements, organic shapes and natural colors for more of a bohemian sensibility and exotic glamour. My goal with every collection is to offer something for all women and occasions – from effortless everyday essentials to evening glam statement-makers

Spring 2014 focuses on creating decadent surfaces and depth via layers of laces, tulles, and crinkle chiffons. With a palette of dusty rose, copper, light butter, soft gray, ivory and celadon, I let the combination of textures and fabrics replace my “print” for the season.

Zac Posen
178 179
The collection depicts a romantic femininity. A manipulation of emotional textures, a layering of prints, and tonalities of color within a single piece evoke a modern day Sarah Bernardt.

For Spring/Summer 2014, the ZAC Zac Posen collection offers a vision of foreign beauty inspired by the youthful elegance of 1930s Far East mixed with signature details of classic American swimwear. Posen›s beguiling 1930’s reflects the decade›s lush and languid approach to dress-ing. The Eastern inspired references are offset with finishing details bor-rowed from the crisp simplicity of American swimwear, eliciting a modern and energized look.
