SPITZ AND PRIMITIVE TYPES
Spitz-type dogs are a dog characterized by long, thick, and often white fur. Spitz dogs will have have pointed
ears and muzzles, and a tail that is curled over the dog's back.
This is an Alaskan Malamute, also known as Mal or Mally. They are still employed as sled dogs, although most today are used in weight pulling, dog agility and
packing.
Recent genetic testing of dog breeds shows that the Spitz type
is the closest ancestor to the wolf, the oldest dog known.
The Spitz and Primitive Type include the Norwegian Elkhound, the Finnish Spitz, the
Akita, the Shiba Inu and the Samoyed.
