Made for…
Faster processing With instant laser turn on, pulsing rates to 500kHz, ability to vary pulse power, energy, width and repetition rates on-the-fly, fiber lasers deliver faster processing across a wide range of materials and applications.
Reduced energy billsFiber lasers are up to ten times more energy efficient than traditional YAG or CO2 laser systems. And, consuming little to no energy when not active, the annual energy savings can attract government grant funded energy efficiency programs for industry.
Greater reliabilityFiber lasers have no mirrors to adjust or align, and no lamps to replace. Maintenance is minimal and so utilization and up-times are maximized. The lasers really are designed as shop floor industrial tools.
Small manufacturing footprint SPI lasers can be air or water cooled and with the largest units only 5U high in a rack format, take little space within the machine system of which they are a part. Multiple deployments of fiber laser based machines can show a significant improvement on factory productivity per metre square. Higher productivity, lower operational costs and smaller footprints all combine to ensure a compelling return on investment.
Single unit, multiple applicationSPI pulsed and CW lasers can process across a wide variety of applications and materials, metals and non-metals: spilasers.com/applications shows typical and innovative applications enabled by fiber lasers.

Focused on your success
1Defining your project
SPI Lasers will work with you to identify and define your laser project and the resulting process requirements. Together we will work to create solutions to your requirements, either with SPI directly or in combination with one of our network of qualified distribution partners. In some instances we will also work with academic institutions on your behalf to push the boundaries of our technology.
2Application labs and proof of concept
SPI’s Application Labs are run by experts with backgrounds in materials engineering and laser applications. Located in California and Southampton, the labs are equipped with pulsed and CW fiber lasers, marking stations, galvo based welding, X-Y cutting/scribing, glove box welding and a first class metrology facility nearby.
The labs are available, free of charge, to create proof of concept samples and application notes for potential users of SPI’s Lasers. Our applications team will work with you to meet your requirements, create a solution and provide feedback to inform your decision.
If more detailed process development work be required, then SPI can suggest an introduction to the SPI Lasers Academic Partners: universities and laser institutes who have purchased SPI fiber lasers and are willing to undertake paid process development activity on behalf of industry.
3Free evaluation with try before you buy
Once proof of concept samples have been sent to the industrial user a decision is typically taken to take advantage of SPI’s Try Before You Buy program whereby a suitable laser is sent free of charge to the user for a free 30 day trial.

Purchasing new capital equipment or investing in a new supplier of lasers can be a costly and demanding process. We never underestimate the commitments a customer or potential customer has to make when entering this process. Our job is to make it easier for you to make the decision to purchase our fiber lasers. Our customers are typically integrators, end users, job shops, factory automation specialists, manufacturing OEMs and academic institutions looking for quality fiber lasers at competitive prices. We have the industry expertise and partnerships that make the difference.
4Production facilities
SPI is committed to providing products that meet and surpass industry and international standards for quality, reliability and optimum performance in the field.
SPI’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Southampton is often visited by existing and potential customers who are able to see the world class fiber and product manufacturing facilities in action. Our UK facility is registered to the international quality standard ISO9001.
SPI products are designed for easy system integration in accordance with all the applicable international standards. They are highly energy efficient in use, up to ten times more efficient than Nd YAG equivalents and are often used as a fundamental part of our customers’ environmental policies.
SPI takes its responsibility to the environment and health and safety seriously in every aspect of its manufacturing operations.
5Customer service and product support
At SPI, we believe that our relationship with our customer begins well before any purchase is made and continues long afterwards.
Our commitment to our customers is to give them market-leading products (invariably surpassing our own datasheet performance) combined with strong customer support internationally.
We’ll be there to support you before you decide to buy with our application labs (see 2), and we offer global product support wherever you are.

Pulsed micro-machiningMicro-machining covers a wide variety of industrial processes. Processes that require less than 50W can often be performed using SPI’s redENERGY pulsed lasers. SPI also offers lasers with higher power for more substantial micro-machining applications – see page 6.
SPI’s redENERGY pulsed lasers achieve excellent results in micro-machining and are suitable for a very wide range of high precision micro-machining applications. Applications requiring ablation, scribing, drilling, cutting thin metals, ITO patterning, silicon processing, resistor trimming, and many more are all within the lasers capability.
As with marking, the key differentiator of SPI’s redENERGY pulsed lasers is the versatility of the 25 selectable waveforms and the benefits that accompany its flexibility. The ability to optimize key pulse characteristics to individual applications gives enhanced process quality and productivity.

MarkingLaser marking represents one of the largest application areas for industrial lasers. The need for marking is varied, covering product identification and traceability to functionality or just simply by adding value in terms of branding and personalization. Lasers are the tool of choice no matter what the material as they produce permanent marks with a non-contact process at high speed with high precision. Laser marking requires no consumables and marks are computer generated and are therefore highly flexible.
SPI’s redENERGY fiber lasers out-perform conventional lasers in marking applications on metal, plastic and other surfaces. They are ideal for a wide range of marking applications including black anneal color marking on stainless steel, paint layer removal on mobile phone keypads and marking integrated circuits (ICs). For further applications please see the table on page 14.
The differentiator with SPI’s redENERGY lasers is the pulse operating range accessed through the 25 selectable waveforms giving a range from CW- 500kHz. This gives users the ability to tune peak power, pulse energy and pulse frequency for their application. SPI also offers tailored beam quality to meet specific marking and micro-machining requirements.

Bitmap marking compatible
Pulse width variable across 25 pre-set waveforms*
Maximized peak power over full operational repetition rate*

The benefits of having selectable functionality and beam quality include:
1. Controllability and flexibility of material and applications that can be processed from a single laser
2. Better, more accurate indelible quality marks with less damage to substrates
3. Productivity increases with better more reliable marks at higher speeds
