Procedures and Hints for special Occasions.
If the visitor was welcomed appropriately comment on this, recognise that protocols were followed and congratulate the group/person.
Leaders will be able to: Carry out flag
ceremony correctly and with decorum
Hand out the Dominoes
There are 2 sets in the kit – 22 cards in each set - just in case there are large numbers in the group – they will need to be kept separate (there are coloured dots on the back of each set for ease of packing up at the end)
Distribute the 22 cards amongst the participants.
The player with the ‘Start’ card goes first, the correct answer is matched to this card and so on with players placing their cards appropriately.
There is a trainer cheat sheet available in this kit. This could be given to a participant to act as adjudicator.
A trainer background file has been compiled to provide the evidence for the answers.
Cards may be laid on the floor, on tables or tacked on the wall – depends on the facility – as the cards have been laminated, this activity can even be conducted outdoors.
Each card has a question on one side and an answer on the other – the idea is to match the question to the correct answer and build the domino wall.
So that players are not standing around waiting for their turn, encourage them to match their cards while they are waiting – you could have many parts of the wall being built at the one time and then assembled as a whole at the end.
This session is about the protocols, Unit Leaders participated in a session earlier today

where they actually made a flagpole.
If the equipment is available – having participants practice carrying flags would be a great way to finish the session.

Procedures and Hints for Special Occasions.Special Occasions in Guiding
1. Acknowledgement of Traditional Owners
Welcome to CountryThe traditional custodians of the land, usually senior representative of the local Aboriginal community, should undertake the "Welcome to Country" ceremony. However, this is dependent upon the location of the event and the practice of the community. Steps should be taken to ensure that the appropriate Aboriginal representative is invited to undertake the ceremony. It is very important that the Aboriginal representative has been involved in and is comfortable with the arrangements.
Acknowledgement of CountryAn "Acknowledgement of Country" is a way that all people can show respect for Aboriginal cultures and heritage and the ongoing relationship the traditional custodians have with the land.
At the commencement of a meeting or function, a chair or speaker begins by acknowledging that the meeting is taking place in the country of the traditional custodians. Where the name of the traditional custodians is known, it is specifically used. Where it is not known, a general acknowledgement is given.
Examples of "Acknowledgement of Country"
Example 1.I would like to pay my respect and acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which this meeting takes place, and also pay respect to Elders both past and present
Example 2.I would like to Acknowledge the _______________ people who are the traditional custodians of this land. I would also like to pay respect to Elders both past and present of the_______________ nation and extend that respect to other Aboriginal people present.
Local Aboriginal organisations including the NSW NSW AECG Inc. NSW Aboriginal Land Council or Elders Council and government organisations including the NSW Department of Education and Communities, Aboriginal Education and Community Engagement Unit can provide advice as to the traditional custodians of the land.

An invitation to the Governor should be made at least six months prior to the event, sooner if possible.
Members of Parliament/Local Government – these may be issued at a local level.
State Commissioner, Deputy State Commissioner, State Office Bearers Invitations should be in writing and include a date, time and dress code (ie uniform or non-uniform). The invitation should also state what duties the representative is required to perform (presentation of award, speech etc.).
