SA PBC Funding and Training Guide 2
INTRODUCTION The South Australia PBC Funding and Training Guide brings together information about funding opportunities, programs, services and other resources that may be useful to Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs), also known as Registered Native Title Bodies Corporate (RNTBCs).1 This guide was developed in response to recommendations from PBCs at national and regional meetings for more information about funding and training opportunities. This guide is designed to be used primarily as an on-line resource and throughout the guide you will find links to access additional on-line information. This toolkit includes information about:
Grants (government and other funding) Grant funding assistance Training information Other assistance.
Along with the South Australia PBC Funding and Training Guide there is also a national guide as well as guides for other states and territories:
National New South Wales Northern Territory Queensland Victoria Western Australia
The PBC website provides other useful information, including:
A timeline of legislation and government policy for PBCs A profile of each PBC Information about upcoming events for PBCs Monthly summaries of relevant news articles about PBCs.
The PBC website is currently being looked after by the Native Title Research Unit at AIATSIS, who are also coordinating a national email network of PBCs. Further information about PBCs can be found through the AIATSIS Native Title Research Unit’s Prescribed Bodies Corporate page and Native Title Information Handbook
1 The term prescribed body corporate (PBC) derives from Part 2 Division 6 of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) (NTA), which provides that a PBC must be determined to manage native title rights and interests. The
Native Title (Prescribed Bodies Corporate) Regulations 1999 prescribe the form or types of bodies that may be nominated when a determination recognising native title has been made. The term Registered Native
Title Body Corporate (RNTBC) derives from the NTA and describes the organisation that is determined by the Court and entered on the National Native Title Register. Under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres
Strait Islander) Act 2006 an RNTBC will be required to have the words ‘registered native title body corporate’ or the abbreviation ‘RNTBC’ as part of its name. For the purpose of this document from this point
forward the abbreviation PBCs will be used to refer to Prescribed Bodies Corporate and Registered Native Title Bodies Corporate.
