GENERAL MANAGER’S NOTE
2
DeANNEHAMILTONExecutive Director/ General Manager
It’s been an interesting start to the year, to say the least, and as I reflect on my move back to the Pacific Northwest and becoming part of the KBTC family, I think about the change that we’ve all experienced during the first couple months of 2017. Huge shifts have occurred, from how we think to how we interact with the people around us to how we see the world. Keeping up on the news of the day seems more ur-gent, yet we’re seeing substance being replaced by sensationalism and credible reporting being eclipsed by shock journalism. If you’re like me, you might find yourself feeling a bit overwhelmed as the media land-scape alters, but the good news is there’s always one place you can count on to offer you an uncluttered, unbiased, and honest window on the world – KBTC. As a viewer and supporter, you already know you can trust the programs you watch on KBTC and those you stream on demand from our website, kbtc.org. What you may not know is that you are in good company. More than 95 million people in the country watch their local public television station each month. And for thirteen consecutive years PBS has been rated the most trustworthy institution among nationally known organizations. It’s our privilege to partner with you in this tradition of excellence and we will continue, unwaveringly, to bring you, your family, and your neighbors the very best of children’s programs, science, nature, the arts, local news and more. It is, after all, our mission and our pledge to you. We invite you to enjoy all of our offerings this month, including Northwest Now’s look at Open Govern-ment and our celebration of Women’s History Month with programs including Shipping Out: The Story of America’s Seafaring Women and Soldier On: Life after Deployment. Have fun watching a night of comics – Super Heroes: A Never-Ending Battle and Cosplay: Crafting A Secret Identity or settle in for the return of Roy Orbison: Black & White Night 30. Enjoy!
