Prepared forSuccessGain a deeper understanding of theissues such as the causes andconsequences of social inequality,family patterns and relationships,demographic changes, crime anddelinquency, and the role of race, classand gender in society.We’ll prepare you for graduate studyand/or administrative positions innonprofit settings, businesses, socialservice agencies or hospitals. You willbe trained to work with people inareas such as family, employment,aging and administration of justice orhealth services. You’ll learn aboutvarious cultures and societies aroundthe world to enhance understandingof intercultural and internationalissues.Typical positions held by sociology

graduates include working for anonprofit agency administeringprograms, a personnel/humanresource manager, community worker,social service agency, teacher insecondary schools data analyst for theCensus Bureau, social researcher,market researcher, or as a researchtechnician.The department has administrativeresponsibility for an interdisciplinaryfamily studies minor and contributesto interdisciplinary programs such ascriminal justice major, women’sstudies major and minor, gerontologyminor, the LGBTQ studies certificate,the social diversity certificate and thetransnational Asian studies certificate.
