Ongoing – Series do not have a particular start and end, usually run all year round.

Lighting usually reflects the mood, and filters are used, e.g. Blue filter.

Storylines contain a lot of realism, e.g. Family issues.

Scheduling – soaps are usually scheduled for target audience, e.g. Hollyoaks is on in the early evening – targets a 16-25 audience.

Usually represent a region, e.g. Coronation Street represents the North West.
