This presentation will discuss the EXIT shaft construction, whichwas achieved with the construction of a permanent slurry wall andjet-grout bottom seal. Slurry walls were constructed to a depth of47M, through very hard ground consisting of glacial till and granularsoils. Shaft construction was executed over a live sewer at alltimes, which required very accurate construction techniquesproducing virtually no vibrations.

On December 15, 2010, the 2,995-room, $3.9 billion dollarCosmopolitan resort hotel/casino on an 8.3-acre site opened to thepublic. Slurry walls fully enclosed the site along the property line to120 feet below grade. The slurry wall and groundwater conditionswere monitored throughout the construction. Monitoring includedvertical and lateral wall deformation, groundwater, and dewateringdischarge rate.
