Knowledge$most$other$folks$don’t$have:$“(e.g., regarding a scientific field or methods for assembling a piece of furniture or means of assessing responsibility for an oil spill)” On the bright side, unless you are a researcher, you probably won’t care whether something is D, P, or TC, or none of them, because the process of analyzing the communicative situation is largely the same. We’ll take that up now.$

have$considered$so$far.$•  Syllabus$•  YouTube$guitar$lesson$•  U$of$M$brand$policy$•  DADT$report.$

•  First,$groups$will$brainstorm$author$purposes;$imagine$as$many$as$possible.$You$must$add$at$least$one$item$to$each$sheet.$

•  Second,$groups$will$consider$what$first$group$wrote$for$author$purposes$and$then$IDs$as$many$audiences$as$possible.$

•  Third,$groups$iden=fy$as$many$aspects$of$the$material$and$social$context$as$possible.$

•  Fourth,$groups$consider$the$available$media$and$modes$of$communica=on.$(How$can$this$author$reach$these$audiences$for$these$purposes?)$

Can$you$see$how$some$texts/documents$can$be$professional$communica=on$for$one$audience$and$technical$communica=on$(or$not$DP&TC$at$all)$for$another?$
