Engineering is one of the oldest professions in the
world. Around 2550 BC, Imhotep, the first
documented engineer, built a famous steppedpyramid of King Zoser located at Saqqarah

Civil engineering is the oldest of the maindisciplines of engineering. The first engineeringschool, the National School of Bridges andHighways in France, was opened in 1747. JohnSmeaton was the first person to actually callhimself a "Civil Engineer". These civil engineersbuilt all types of structures, designed water-supply and sewer systems, designed railroadsand highways, and planned cities. In 1828 theworld's first engineering society came intobeing, the Institution of Civil Engineers in
England.

Geotechnical Engineering
Geotechnical engineering is a discipline of civilengineering that deals with soil, rock and undergroundwater, and their relation to design, construction andoperation of engineering projects. It is also sometimes
called soils engineering, ground engineering orgeotechnics as it is closely related to engineeringgeology.
Nearly all civil engineering structures are supported onor built into the ground, and thus require at leastgeotechnical engineering.

Identifikasi potensi KK Teknik Sumbedaya Air dapat dianalisisberdasarkan jabaran potensi sumberdaya air di Indonesia, yakni:
– Indonesia merupakan negara dengan daerah berbentuk kepulauanyang memiliki jumlah pulau sekitar 17.000 pulau yang tersebar diseluruh wilayah Indonesia.
– Dengan jumlah kepulauan seperti di atas, ketersediaan air,pemanfaatan serta manajemen pengelolaan sumberdaya air harusseoptimal mungkin.
– Indonesia merupakan negara agraris, dimana potensi pertanianmerupakan modal pembangunan negara.
– Masalah kurangnya ketersediaan air di musim kemarau sertamelimpahnya air pada musim hujan masih belum diselesaikan denganoptimal.
– Kebutuhan akan air bersih makin meningkat dan belum dioptimalkanbaik dari segi pengelolaan pemenuhan dan pengambilan dari sumber-sumber air.
