Teachers: Thank you for your interest in my materials. This sample is great for using with literacy centers and small, guided groups. It helps to reinforce figurative language. Copy onto card,
laminate and cut out the color coded cards. Blue has more challenging text than pink.
You may also be interested in my Poetry Writers workshops. These are weeklong lesson plans with hands on, interactive
activities that engage the children. The focus is on one particular thing (sunflowers, springtime) and looks into figurative language, descriptive writing and forms of poetry. The kids love the crafts
too!
You can find these in my stores: TpT and Teacher’s Notebook.

Enjoy! ~ Susan Powers
The day was as cold
as ice.
John can run as fast as a
cheetah.
Her baby brother was as cute as a
kitten.
The ice cream had melted as soft as butter.
Strong as a bull.
Slow like a snail.
As small as a mouse
As quick as
as lightning
The dog was as ferocious as a
lion.
The fur coat felt as smooth as a
a baby’s bottom!
The cave was as dark as the night.
My first grade teacher laughed
like a hyena.
Grrrr!
Bright like a star
Cool as a cucumber
As quiet as a mouse.
As green as
grass
