A Guide To Modern Vision Correction
Do you remember your first pair of glasses? The first time you struggled to put a contact lens in your eye?
Now imagine waking up tomorrow morning, opening
your eyes, and seeing everything clearly. You begin
another day – but this time, without lenses.
Every year, millions of people choose the freedom of LASIK or other vision correction procedures
over glasses and contacts.
Choosing Sight Without Glasses is a life-changing
event. We know you have many questions, so
we created this guide to help.
Dedicated to Sight Without Glasses
Since its founding in 1994, ClearSight has been steadfastly committed to one goal:

Having been vision correction patients ourselves, we understand what it takes
to trust someone with your vision. We also understand the freedom and joy of
waking up for the first time and seeing clearly without lenses.
We hope this guide will give you a better understanding of your options
so that you feel confident taking the next step on the path to better vision.

1. THE FREEDOM:A major reason that LASIK has been performed nearly 20 million times in the U.S. alone
is due to the great sense of freedom that comes from being able to just get up and go.
2. THE COMFORT:Glasses pinch and can cause headaches, and contacts are barely tolerable. Why not enjoy
the comfort of seeing clearly with your own eyes and nothing else?
3. IT’S SAFER:There are many situations in life when losing your glasses or contacts is more than
an inconvenience... sometimes it’s dangerous! From disasters such as fires and tornadoes
to simply losing a contact lens while driving, lens-free living can make your life safer.
4. YOU’LL SAVE TIME:Whether you wear glasses or contacts, you spend a lot of time buying them, cleaning
them, and finding them after they get lost. Imagine how much time you could save if you didn’t have to do all that!
5. YOU’LL SAVE MONEY:With the ongoing cost of eye exams, glasses, contacts, and solutions, vision correction could actually save you money in the long run. And while this isn’t the main reason to
choose Sight Without Glasses, it certainly helps justify the upfront cost.
TOP 10 REASONS
To Choose Sight Without Glasses
6. YOU’LL WORK BETTER:Many jobs are safer or easier when you don’t have to worry about glasses getting knocked
off or contacts blowing out of your eyes.
7. YOU’LL PLAY BETTER:Whatever hobbies or sports you enjoy, they will almost certainly be more enjoyable
if your glasses or contacts aren’t hanging around to get in the way.
8. YOU COULD LOOK BETTER, AND SEE BETTER:Many people prefer how they look without glasses. Why else would so many endure the
hassle, discomfort, and expense of contacts? Plus, with LASIK, not only can you avoid
glasses, the results are often better than they ever could be with glasses and contacts!
9. CONTACT LENS INTOLERANCE:Not only do contacts irritate your eyes and require frequent maintenance, but at some
point, many people become contact lens intolerant. Statistically, as many as 6 million
people per year in the U.S. just can’t wear them anymore!
10. THE CELL PHONE FACTOR: It is amazing how many people tell us that the first time it really hits them how wonderful
it is to see without glasses is when they wake up the next morning, reach over and check their cell phone... without reaching for their glasses.
When light enters the eye, it first passes through a
clear layer called the cornea and then through the lens,
finally reaching the retina, which is the light-sensing
structure of the eye. In normal vision, the cornea and
lens bend light so it focuses properly on the retina.
Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism are
the result of irregularities in the shape of the cornea,
resulting in blurred or distorted images. Each of these issues can be fixed by vision correction.
However, the eye also goes through a natural aging process and changes over time. Changes due to
aging introduce additional vision issues, such as the
need for reading glasses or bifocals, and influence
the treatment options available.
Your options generally fall within two age ranges:
AGE PROBLEMS SOLUTIONS

43 and over Readers & Bifocals DLR, LASIK, INLAYS
How Does Vision Actually Work?
AN OVERVIEW OF THE EYE
Solutions: Modern LASIK, SMILE, PRK or ICL
Around the age of 18 you reach visual maturity,
which means your eyes stop growing and
your vision becomes stable. At this age,
less than perfect vison is usually caused
by nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
The treatments that are best suited for people
between the ages of 18 and 42 are usually
Modern LASIK, SMILE, PRK or the Visian ICL.
Modern LASIK is the treatment most often
recommended for people within this age
range. It’s safe, gentle, and the results are
proven. It is also the treatment ClearSight has spent the past 20 years perfecting, and
the first ever vision treatment backed by a
written guarantee on your results!
PRK or the Visian ICL may be recommended
as better options for people with higher
prescriptions, thin corneas, or other reasons
that can be discussed during your consultation.
AGES 18-42: GLASSES AND CONTACTS
Modern LASIK is an advanced laser
eye treatment used to correct near-
s ightedness , fars ightedness and
astigmatism to help you see clearly without glasses or contact lenses.
This gentle treatment is performed by
using lasers to reshape the curve of the
cornea, allowing the light that enters the
eye to focus properly on the retina.
The procedure takes just a few minutes per eye, and recovery is fast - most
patients can see 20/20 or better the very next day!
We usually recommend Modern LASIK
for patients who are 18-42 years old, and
as a part of the treatment plan for those
age 43 and over.

What to Expect
PROCEDURE:
Modern LASIK is a quick and comfortable
process. First, a precise laser creates a
thin flap on the outer layer of the cornea.
Then a second laser is used to reshape
the underlying corneal tissue. Finally,
the flap is returned to its proper position,
where it bonds quickly. Treatment is
typically painless, and patients should
expect markedly improved vision within 24 hours. In fact, they can usually return
to their routines the next day.
POPULAR BENEFITS:
• Fast treatment, as little as one minute per eye!
• Fast recovery, most patients see 20/20 or better the very next day!
• Often leads to better night vision than
with glasses or contact lenses

IT’S NOT JUST “LASIK” ANYMORE
LASIK was originally FDA approved over 20 years ago, and since then technological advances have continued to usher in higher levels of safety, accuracy, and results. In fact, a recent worldwide study determined that LASIK is the safest and most successful elective procedure in the world.*
WHY MODERN LASIK IS DIFFERENT
Today’s LASIK - using state of the art technology - is significantly safer and more accurate than its predecessors. Highlights of Modern LASIK technology include:
• All laser treatment - safer, more comfortable • Larger treatment zone - improves nighttime vision • Fast eye tracker - tracks 1000x per second for better precision • Small spot lasers - better visual quality, more consistent results • Wavefront or topography-based treatment - improves visual clarity
MODERN LASIK BENEFITS
So what does this mean for you? Benefits of Modern LASIK include:
• A safer procedure - multiple studies have shown Modern LASIK to be safer than wearing contacts! • Better visual results - vision typically equal to or better than with glasses and contacts • Improved visual clarity - can correct aberrations in your vision that cause glare and halos • A gentler procedure - very little discomfort, faster healing time • More people are now eligible for LASIK
THE CLEARSIGHT DIFFERENCE
Every LASIK treatment we perform is Modern LASIK. This means each ClearSight LASIK patient receives a state-of-the-art, all-laser, results-driven treatment. Plus, each treatment is backed by ClearSight’s Lifetime Commitment and the offer of our 20/20 or it’s Free Money Back Guarantee - the only guarantee of its kind in Oklahoma.
WHAT IS “MODERN LASIK?”
* Donnenfeld ED. The best for LASIK. Presented at AAO Subspecialty Days; Nov. 10-11, 2017; New Orleans.
1. HOW SAFE IS MODERN LASIK?While there is no medical procedure that has zero risk, Modern LASIK has been determined to be the safest and most effective elective procedure in the world! Even minor complications are extremely rare and most often easily resolved. You can discuss this more with your doctor at your free exam.
2. IS MODERN LASIK PERMANENT?Modern LASIK permanently changes the shape of your cornea in order to bring your vision into focus. Over time, however, you may notice subtle changes in your vision. Most of the time these small changes can be treated with an additional laser enhancement.
3. CAN MODERN LASIK FIX ASTIGMATISM?In a word, yes! Modern LASIK is effective at treating astigmatism along with nearsightedness or farsightedness. In fact, since glasses and contacts have the “opposite” astigmatism ground into them, they rarely correct your astigmatism fully, especially in your peripheral vision. LASIK does not have that issue and can treat astigmatism at the source, giving you clear vision all the time.
4. WILL IT HURT?Modern LASIK has advanced to the point where there is very little that is felt during the procedure. In fact, we often describe Modern LASIK as “Gentle LASIK.” We take a number of steps to ensure your comfort along the way. We offer oral medication to help you relax, and topical anesthetic will be used to prevent discomfort. Typically, only a slight feeling of pressure is felt during the short time your vision is actually being corrected. To help you relax even more, we encourage you to choose the music you want to listen to!
5. HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME?One of the best parts of Modern LASIK is the rapid vision recovery. After treatment you will find that
your immediate vision is somewhat hazy. This typically improves rapidly over the next 12 to 24 hours, and most people are quite excited when they wake up the following day. Depending on the type of
work you do, you may even be able to go back to work within 24-48 hours!
COMMON MODERN LASIK FAQS
SMILE
SMILE (SMall Incision Lenticule
Extraction) is the latest laser vision correction option available in the
U.S. SMILE is performed with one
of the same lasers used for LASIK
but with a different technique that
leaves the surface of the cornea
almost untouched, allowing for a
strong cornea, quick recovery, and maximum comfort.
SMILE is currently used to treat
patients with nearsightedness,
which is the most common eye
focusing issue.

PROCEDURE:
The VisuMax laser creates a thin, contact
lens-shaped layer just beneath the
surface of the eye. This layer is then
removed through a small opening, and
the eye heals naturally. The removal of
this layer changes the curvature of the
cornea and corrects your vision.
POPULAR BENEFITS:
• Minimally invasive, which allows for a
strong and stable cornea
• Proven treatment with quick recovery
• SMILE requires only one laser, so it is
a fast and comfortable procedure
• Designed to reduce or eliminate your
need for glasses or contacts

Photo Refractive Keratectomy, or PRK,
is a LASIK alternative that is often recommended for patients with thinner corneas or specific occupations.
The main difference with PRK is that
no flap is created. Instead, the excimer
laser reshapes the outer surface of the
eye to correct your prescription.
Although the recovery time is longer,
the end results are as good as LASIK.
POPULAR BENEFITS:
• Option for people with thin or
irregular corneas or dry eye issues

IMPLANTABLE COLLAMER LENS (ICL)
The Visian ICL is an advanced vision
correction treatment for patients with moderate to high nearsightedness or thin corneas.
Candidates for the Visian ICL are typically
in their 20s or 30s with a high prescription.
Often, patients such as these are not ideal
candidates for LASIK, but make great Visian ICL recipients.
POPULAR BENEFITS:
• Great option for people with high prescriptions
• Results that are as good as LASIK - and in some cases even better
• Treatment is reversible

AGES 43+: READERS AND BIFOCALS
Solutions: DLR, Corneal Inlays or LASIK
As you enter your 40s, your eyes will start a natural
aging process where the lens of the eye begins
to harden and cloud over time. This process is
called Dysfunctional Lens Syndrome or DLS.
DLS evolves in three stages: the first stage of DLS is commonly referred to as presbyopia, where the hardening of the lens makes it difficult
to focus on things up close, causing the need
for reading glasses or bifocals.
During the second stage of DLS, the lens of
the eye has started the gradual process of
clouding, which generally begins after age 50.
This clouding causes glare and halos (especially at night), as well as overall reduced clarity of
vision. Eventually, this clouding will progress into stage 3 of DLS, also known as a cataract.
Depending on your age and stage of DLS, the
recommended treatment options are LASIK, the
KAMRA™ inlay or Lens Replacement to help restore both near and distance vision.
LENS REPLACEMENT (DLR)
Dysfunctional Lens Replacement , or
DLR, is a procedure where we replace the
dysfunctional lens of the eye with a clear, technologically advanced lens.
DLR has become one of the most highly recommended vision correction options
here at ClearSight because it can address so many different vision issues. It treats
nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism
and presbyopia - reducing or eliminating the
need for readers and bifocals. It also prevents future cataract development, so that there
will be no need for cataract surgery down
the road!
We typically recommend DLR for people age
43 and over who need readers or bifocals
or have been diagnosed with early cataracts.
Overview
Gary M. DLR Patient • Norman, OK 8 See Gary’s Story: ClearSight.com/Gary
PROCEDURE:
DLR is similar to traditional cataract surgery
but uses advanced technology to provide many added benefits. The procedure starts
with a computerized laser helping to remove
the aging lens of the eye. In its place goes an
advanced, customized lens, and the eye heals
quickly. This typically painless procedure takes about 15 minutes. Patients often report a rapid
improvement in vision, and can return to most
activities within 48 hours.
POPULAR BENEFITS:
• Treats nearsightedness, farsightedness,
astigmatism and presbyopia to reduce or eliminate glasses and readers altogether!
• Patients often describe colors to be more vivid and brighter
• Prevents cataract surgery later in life
• Often pays for itself by eliminating decades of
expensive no-line bifocals

What to Expect
YOU DON’T HAVE TO WAIT FOR YOUR EYES TO “GET OLD.”
Presbyopia - the need for reading glasses and bifocals - literally means “old eyes.” And cataracts - the clouding of the lens of your eye - is simply the next stage in the eye’s aging process. It used to be that lens replacement was used solely to alleviate cataracts.
Today, thanks to decades of advancement in both lens technology and surgery techniques, we’re not waiting for a cataract to develop, we’re treating your immediate need for reading glasses and bifocals - as well as your nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism - all while preventing cataracts!
THE MOST COMPLETE VISION CORRECTION SOLUTION
Modern DLR is an amazing technological advancement because we are now able to fix so many vision symptoms all at once! Highlights of this all-in-one solution include:
• Treats nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism - treats the need for glasses or contacts • Treats presbyopia - treats the need for reading glasses or bifocals • Prevents cataracts - no future cataract surgery needed • Multiple advanced lens options - customized results that address your specific visual needs • Results fine tuned with LASIK - taking your visual results from good to great • A lifelong solution - most patients will experience better vision for life
THE CLEARSIGHT DIFFERENCE
DLR at ClearSight is different in a number of ways when compared to the lens replacement procedures offered at most other centers. The biggest difference is that we often use our expertise in LASIK to fine tune the results of DLR. It’s this extra step that helps us achieve the amazing results our patients love, and it’s included with every DLR procedure we perform.
At ClearSight, your DLR treatment is all-inclusive - everything you need to get your best possible vision without glasses and contacts - and your results are backed by our ClearSight Lifetime Commitment. That’s something you can’t get from any other center in Oklahoma.
WHY CONSIDER DLR?
1. HOW SAFE IS DLR?DLR is essentially a more advanced version of cataract surgery, which is one of the safest and most widely performed medical procedures in the world. Although there is always some risk associated with any procedure, ClearSight utilizes the latest technology and most advanced safety measures to ensure the safest treatment possible. We will gladly discuss potential risks or side effects with you at your free evaluation.
2. IS IT PERMANENT?One of the greatest advantages of DLR is that the advanced lens is designed to last a lifetime, and is not expected to become cloudy, change position, or ever need replacement. We expect our DLR patients to experience little or no dependence on glasses for life.
3. WILL IT HURT?DLR has advanced to the point where there is very little that is felt during the procedure. In fact, the most discomfort you will likely feel is the tingle from the numbing drops! The entire procedure is extremely quick - just 15 minutes per eye - and we take many steps to make sure you are comfortable along the way.
4. HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY TIME?Every patient is unique, and the healing process will be different in each case. Most patients return to their normal work or lifestyle in two to three days. That said, it may take a few months to experience the full benefits of the procedure. It is important to discuss your needs and expectations with your surgeon so that you can better understand your healing process.
5. IS DLR RIGHT FOR ME? DLR is typically recommended for people age 43 or over who suffer from the need for reading glasses or bifocals. If you’ve been told you have an “early” cataract, DLR may be the recommended solution for you as well. As always, a thorough eye exam is necessary to determine candidacy and whether DLR is indeed the best option for your vision.
COMMON DLR FAQS
The KAMRA Inlay is a simple treatment that
restores near vision while maintaining your distance vision.
It is designed to work like the aperture of
a camera, only allowing focused light to
pass through. By controlling the light, the
inlay allows for a wider range of vision.
We usually recommend KAMRA for those
who are age 43 - 49 and experiencing
presbyopia, which is what causes the need
for reading glasses or bifocals/trifocals.
POPULAR BENEFITS:
• Improves near vision
• Maintains distance vision
• Treatment is reversible

LASIK is a simple laser eye treatment that
takes just minutes per eye, and recovery
is fast - most patients can see 20/20 or
better the very next day!
If you are 43 or over, LASIK could improve your distance vision dramatically, but
you may still need to rely on an additional
solution to see up close.
We usually recommend LASIK as a part of an overall glasses-free treatment plan for those age 43 and over.
POPULAR BENEFITS:
• Safe treatment for distance vision
• Option for people who don’t mind readers.
• Can be combined with KAMRA or DLR for
a complete glasses-free solution
