*AC+ROUN,- We’re the largest, most cost-effective and empowering network of shelters
in the Pacific Northwest, now involving and sheltering around 450 people each daynight in !5
self-managed indoor shelters, a large low-"arrier women’s shelter, and #$%&& #ent 'ities(
)ur efforts are deeply entwined and rely on each other( We are as close to the "one as ispossi"le, and there is nothing that can "e cut without toppling our whole network( *or more
than seven years we’ve "een clear and pu"lic with what’s needed to ena"le the +$%&
democratic shelter network to survive significant additional ongoing financial support(
We ended .0!5 in a"out the same financial situation as the previous calendar year with
around /50,000 in de"t( #hat we managed to survive carrying )N1 this level of de"t,
considering our funding cuts and "ureaucratic struggles, is to our credit( #hat we continue to
carry this level of de"t is a"solutely and clearly due to lack of significant increased sta"le
ongoing funding(

numerous invoices and re;uests( &very "ureaucratic eations like ours(
ES#0 (#E$A) UNCERTAINTIES- Eenerally, early in the spring, *&F shelter money is
"illa"le( 6n .0!5 its arrival was delayed "y many months, its amount to us 3around /.A,000
was less than in its heyday 3/44, and even when it was made availa"le, we had to split the
"illing in two, which seriously hurt our operations and cash flow( We have no word yet a"out
the dis"ursement schedule and amount for .0!B(
IN#!ATION- #he cost of everything2utilities, "us tickets, other essentials2keeps going up,
and our sta"le contract amounts has either stayed flat or had a less-than-the-rate-of-inflation
increase(
