The Campaign for the New Youth Center will: Ensure the new youth center is outfitted & equipped with
appropriate fixtures and furnishing. Provide operational costs and contingency funding as
we transition from a 65 bed to a 120 bed facility.
The new SWHYC will be more than a dormitory for youth with nowhere to go. When complete, there will be 120
beds—nearly double our current capacity of 65 beds—including 20 dedicated to drug treatment and 6 designated step-up units for youth who are ready to transition away from the center. The larger center will allow for larger gathering spaces for recreation, quiet spaces for counseling and enhanced administrative areas for staff, case managers and care providers as our square footage increases from 17,269 to 37,267.

Clark County, The Engelstad Family Foundation, City of Henderson, City of Las Vegas and the City of North Las Vegas have pledged a significant portion to the project. We have secured the $10 million for construction, but must secure funding for the Fixtures and Furnishings and Operating Expenses. Corporations, foundations, organizations and individuals are being asked to contribute to secure the remaining funding needed to complete the project. . With your support, the new youth center will serve the community for years to come. While naming rights for rooms, offices and building features are being extended to those that make significant gifts, the participation of everyone in the Southern Nevada community is encouraged. Every gift is important to the success of this campaign. We need your help. No gift is too small.

WAYS TO GIVE
HISTORY The Youth Center opened as The Center for Independent Living in 1994. In 2008, the youth center became a program of HELP of Southern Nevada. Two years later, the program was renamed The Shannon West Homeless Youth Center in honor of Shannon West-Redwine, former Clark County Homeless Services Coordinator.
Shannon previously served as an assistant director of the county's parks and community services department. She also managed the county's Neighborhood Justice Center and helped establish the Southern Nevada Gang Task Force and other community programs. At the dedication ceremony in October 2010, Shannon spoke about a young gang member she once worked with who turned his life around, but lacked a stable home life and wound up getting killed.
"I swore that day I would do everything in my power to make sure that never happened to another child," she said. "I don't think there's any greater honor than having this center named after me." Shannon died of breast cancer in November 2012. She was 45 years old.
