Leader: Praise the Lord. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same,
the name of the Lord be praised.
People: Life is a journey of mountain peaks and valleys low, yet in every
season God remains a sure foundation and an ever present help.
Leader: For the mercies of a new morning, and peace that surrounds us at night,
we offer you praise.
People: We enter into this house with thanksgiving in our hearts and
praise on our lips, for Jesus is the center of our joy.
Leader: Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
All: We lift our hands, voices, and hearts in total praise to you. Amen.

CHURCH COVENANT
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus
Christ as our Saviour; and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in
the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the
presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into
covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian
love; to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and holiness; to
give it a place in our affections, prayers and services above every organization of
human origin; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrine; to
contribute cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, towards its
expenses, for the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the
relief of the poor and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. In case of
difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit,
and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the
majority to govern.
We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently the
word of God, to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our
kindred and acquaintance; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just
to those in our employ, and faithful in the service we promise others;
endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will towards all men to exemplify
and commend our holy faith.
We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other
unto every good word and work; to guard each other’s reputation, not
needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other’s joys,
and with tender sympathy bear one another’s burdens and sorrows; to cultivate
Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take offense, but always ready for
reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Saviour in the eighteenth chapter
of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil report, and
good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who hath called us out of
darkness into his marvelous light.
When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with
some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the
principles of God’s word.
AbyWEST Moves Forward 3.0 in 24 Mo! Campaign is well underway
We are very grateful to the membership for their
support of our effort to build a $12MM educational
center. Following our initial appeal, more than 40%
of our members responded to the plea to make a
supporting pledge. We are making progress toward
the achievement of our goal to raise $3mm in 24
months. Thanks to your generous support we are
one-third of the way there.
Heed the Call – Make Your Pledge Today! 100% Member Participation Requested
For those who have not made a pledge, there is no time like the present. Our goal is
to attain 100% participation from our members. Pledge cards are available in the
church elevator lobby and at Abyssinian.org via the “AbyWEST” icon. Your completed
pledge card can be left at the front desk in the Trustee mailbox. With your help, our
goal to raise $3mm in 24 months will be realized. Thank you for your continued
support! Dedicated to “the Worship of God and the Service of Humanity.”

The Politics of Jesus - Instructor: Min. Rashad Moore
Tuesdays 9/27, 10/11, 10/25, 11/8, 11/22, 12/6 • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM | Vestry
“…Jesus sought not only to heal people’s pain but also to inspire and empower people to remove the
unjust social and political structures that too often were the cause of their pain.”
The sidewalks of America are covered with the blood of Black people. From the
streets of Ferguson to the contaminated water pipes of Flint, Black communities have
recently faced the harsh reality of state-sanctioned genocide in 21st Century America.
Where is Jesus in this moment? Through engaging discussions, lectures, and group
reflections, this course will explore the revolutionary nature of Jesus who proclaimed a
radical, economic, social, and political change for a people living under the force of the
Roman Empire.
Required Reading: The Politics of Jesus: Rediscovering The True Revolutionary Nature of the Jesus’
Teachings and How They Have Been Corrupted by Obery M. Hendricks, Jr.

Questionable Social Values: The Book of James - Instructor: Min. Pamela Mason
Thursdays 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20 • 7 PM - 8:30 PM | Vestry
How has the value systems of this world impacted the Christian faith today? James teaches
persecuted Christians how to stand firm in the midst of conflict. His life lessons and
practical advice for Christian communities served as a warning to those who had begun
to adopt questionable social values that were not in line with the faith teachings of
Jesus. Join us as we elevate our faith by exploring the same guiding principles James
offered Christians living outside of Palestine.

Declare & Decree: An Effectual Fervent Prayer Life - Instructor: Min. Pamela Mason Thursdays 11/3, 11/10, 11/17, 12/1• 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM | Vestry
How do we achieve the strength, focus and self-discipline needed to experience abundance in
our lives when the enemy comes to lie, steal and destroy the promises of God? When we
begin to see ourselves the way God sees us, we learn to pray as heirs to a risen King
who gave His life so that we might live in abundance, peace and love. Through this
four-part workshop experience, we will explore what it means to put on the full armor
of God, stand on God’s principles and pray God’s promises back to Him. Join us as we
strengthen our witness of Christ by putting into practice what the scriptures teach us
about faith-based prayers. If you saw the film, “War Room,” you don’t want to miss this
special teaching series on the power of an effectual fervent prayer life.
