Self-Esteem
Pay Attention to Body LanguageYour body language telegraphs your mood and
confidence. You can change your mood simply by sitting
up straight in your chair instead of slumping.
Your Own Worst EnemyFear makes it all too easy to slip into a cycle of
negative self-talk. Self-sabotaging thoughts such
as “I'm just going to lose again.” or “Watch her blow
right past me.” lower stack the odds against
you for success.
One Goal At A TimeIf you are new at setting and meeting goals, just set one solid goal
and focus on it. Trying to hit too many goals diminishes the intensity
and deliberateness of your effort.
AffirmationsAffirmations are a way to train your brain to accept positive input and energy. Here
is an affirmation to build confidence.
“I feel secure in who I am, and do not need to compare myself to others.”
Self-TrustWhen someone isn’t trustworthy you don’t have confidence in his
or her ability. The same is true for you. Are you unworthy of your
own trust? Commit to completing goals and actions with
100% of your capability.
Smoke & MirrorsMedia continually bombards us with images and declarations of what is
“beautiful.” The idea of perfect physical beauty is unrealistic, yet we
constantly are trying to lose weight, tighten the behind, diminish wrinkles
and try to look like a 20-something model. Your beauty is natural, not
tweaked with smoke and mirrors.
Yoga for ConfidenceParticipate in a yoga class. Actually attend the
class because it’s a great way to strengthen mind
and body as well as to build new friendships
which don't involve competing over
physical appearance.
Bridge the GapResting yoga poses are helpful for easing a
mind that's busy with negative thoughts.
Gentle backbend poses (like camel or
bridge) build core strength as well as the
bridge between mind and body.
Be authenticConfidence is something
that cannot be faked, but it is
something that can be built.
Lead the WayIf you lack self confidence you
probably shy away from anything
remotely looking like being in charge
of a project or activity. However,
when given the chance you will
surprise yourself in the new role.
Opportunities to lead build confidence
because it forces you to step outside
your comfort zone.
