Seeking Jesus ... On Sunday mornings during the educational hour, 4:12 Youth have been going through the Book of John. The other week we looked at John Chapter 6 Verses 22 through 69. Let me set the stage.
Jesus feeds the 5,000 and He knows that the people are so excited at what He just did that they want to make Him king, so Jesus with-draws. The people see the disciples get into the only boat and head across the sea. The next day the people are looking for Jesus and can’t find Him, so they head across the sea to Capernaum and they find Him there. They begin to ask when and how did He get there (didn’t get into the boat with the disciples). Jesus doesn’t answer these questions, instead He turns it around on them and challenges them as to why they are there seeking Him. He says the only reason they were there was for the free handouts, bread and food. They were seeking what Jesus could give them not seeking Him. Anyone who says that Jesus never claimed to be God never read John Chapter 6. After He challenges them, He clearly talks about being the Messiah (Verses 27 – 59) which is why in verse 60 they say, “This is a hard saying.” This is also why in Verse 66 many stopped following Him. So, Jesus turned to the 12 and asked them if they were going to leave as well. He is giving them an “out.” If they want to bail, now is the time. Jesus was asking them, “why are you following me?” Peter speaks for the group and says “Where are we going to go? You are the Holy One of God.” Peter says you are it, there is nothing more, there is no other option. We are putting a stake in the ground and no matter what we are following you. Jesus still asks that same question of us today, why are you following Jesus? Are you following for what He can give to you or are you following because of who He is? Are you seeking His hand or really seeking His face? What is your motivation for coming to church?
Small groups? Going on mission trips? I believe this is an area we need to constantly be checking: what am I seeking, His hand or His face?

Grades K - 2 Tadpole Camp was created to allow children to be a part of camp with the comfort of having a friendly face near by. Kids kindergarten through second grade come to camp accompanied by a parent or grandparent or other adult supervisor. Together they experience camp for the first time. This transitions them in the future to attend Kidz Camp with no homesickness. Do you know someone who just can't wait to go to camp? Here's their chance!
July 9-12, 2018 Grades 3 - 5 It's time to kick our faith into high gear, and that's just what we are going to do at Kidz Camp this summer. Our goal is to present several ways that your child can either establish or enhance their personal relationship with the Lord. There’s early-bird pricing before June 1! Access the children’s camp page to find the link to register for both camps. Don’t wait—discounts may apply for early registration. Go to http://www.cedarspringscamp.com/camps-retreats/children

A Heart’s Place to Dwell … Many of you are aware that Pastor Ernst has recently been moved from his home and is now residing in Emery Place, 901 South Mentzer Place in Robins. We can well imagine the emotions involved with such a move. Great Hillside people have transported, visited, called, and cared for Pastor Ernst while he was in his home. He, and the church, are most grateful. We have a situation now where he is living farther away, but his heart longs to be with Hillside. For that reason, we put out this request: If there is anyone who would be willing to transport Pastor Ernst on a Sunday morning to either service and home again, it would bring him great joy to connect with his church family. The person to contact about this is Julie Statler at (319) 848-3443 or [email protected], and she would work with you on scheduling. This would be a very meaningful gesture of kindness extended to him. Thank you so much for your consideration of this request AND for all that you have done and continue to do for him.
Open House Cancellation Due to a death in the family and a funeral the day that this event was scheduled for, the open house birthday celebration for Larry Statler has been cancelled.
