ScienceCurriculumStructure
Inyears7and8studentsrotatethroughmodulesofsciencethatcoverall3disciplines,theyhave8hoursoflessonsafortnight.
InYear9studentsbegintostudytheGCSEspecificationsandthenumberofteachinghoursgoesupto9hoursafortnight.
Allclassesaretaughtby3separateteachers,oneforeachsubject;Biology,ChemistryandPhysics.Forthefirstyeareveryonewillstudythetriplesciencecurriculum.AttheendofY9thosestudentswhohavedemonstratedthepotentialtogainthehighestgradeswillbeinvitedtocontinuetostudytriplescience.ThemajorityofthecohortwillswitchtostudyingtheCombinedSciencequalification(thisstillinvolvesall3subjectsbeingstudiedbutreducestheamountofcontentthatiscovered)andwillgainagradebasedontheircumulativescoreinall6exampapers(2persubject).InbothtripleandcombinedsciencestudentsareenteredforeitherHighertier(Grades4-9)orFoundation(Grades1-5).FinaldecisionsontiersofentryarenotmadeuntilthespringofYear11.
