Why is it hard to skate on a gravel road?
The gravel increases friction.
![Page 18: Science Chapter 9](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56813a02550346895da1c99e/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)

If an adult runs 4 miles in an hour,
how far will he run in an hour and a half?

.
Since the beach ball is larger than baseball, it has more surface area. Friction from the wind keeps
the beach ball from going as far as the baseball. The weight of the ball also affects the distance because it would add allow the ball to have more force to resist
friction and gravity.
Josh goes to the beach. He throws a baseball. It travels 25 feet. He throws a beach ball.
It travels 5 feet. Why does the large beach ball travel less than the baseball?
![Page 21: Science Chapter 9](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062422/56813a02550346895da1c99e/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)

If you are in outer space,
and you throw a beach ball,
how far will it travel?
The beach ball will keep going until it is slowed down by friction
from the air or pulled down by gravity.

You hypothesize that your new pair of skates
is faster than your old pair.
How can you test your hypothesis?
You must test each pair the exact same way.
You must go the same direction on the samecourse for the same distance. You must use the same amount of force. The weather and wind
should be the same. You must time how long it takes to finish the course wearing each pair of skates.
