TROPICAL GRASSLANDS/SAVA
NNA
Climatologist/GeologistBy: Robert Stamm
What is the average annual temperature? Savannas have warm temperature year
round. Around 70 degrees F. The Australian Savanna is usually
around 75° F to 80° F. The average temperature per year is
about 78° F.
What is the average annual precipitation? The average precipitation in the
Australian and the Africa savanna during the wet season is around 15 to 25 inches.
The average precipitation per year in the Australian Savanna is around 20 to 40 in.
Most of the rain falls during the wet season.
Are there any seasons common to areas within this biome? There are actually two very different
seasons in a savanna; a very long dry season (winter), and a very wet season (summer).
In the summer there is lots of rain. It gets hot and very humid during the rainy
season. During the dry season, which is in the
winter, there are cooler temperatures, clear skies and lower humidity.
Are there any mountains, oceans, volcanoes, or other natural features that contribute to the climate of the Savanna? Masai Mara National Reserve protects
one of the key landscapes in that mosaic, where massive herds of hoofed mammals congregate during the dry season, migrating from the Serengeti Plains.
Western Kenya also supports relict tropical forest and extensive marshlands.
What lines of latitude do most regions of the tropical grasslands fall? The African Savanna biome is a tropical
grassland in Africa between latitude 15° North and 30 degrees S and longitude 15 degrees W and 40° West.
Draughts, Floods, Hurricanes The Llanos of the Orinoco basin of
Venezuela and Columbia is flooded annually by the Orinoco River.
Mountains in the Biome In the Miocene and Pliocene Epochs,
which spanned a period of about 25 million years, mountains rose in western North America and created a continental climate favorable to grasslands.
Mineral or Oil Deposits? The fire makes easier the growth of the
grass and restrains the development of the trees, accelerates the mineralized of the ground and the growth of the plants that adapt to those conditions.

SAVANNA/TROPICAL
GRASSLAND
Biologist, Environmentalist,
Pollution in the Savanna Air is being polluted by Smoke and
exhaust fumes putting extra Carbon dioxide into atmosphere.
Water is being polluted by Factories and people using hazardous chemicals that run off and/or dumped into the water.
Human Activities that endanger the Savanna The use of fire in the Savanna by man has
endagered the animals, plants, and the biome by destroying the cops that they need.
Timber harvesting of the trees in the savanna has also made a impact. The are not many trees that are there in the first place. Thus causing homes to be destroyed and animals to die out.
Over grazing of domesticated animals has also made a impact on the biome.
Natural Disasters Wild fires that can not be contained in a
certain area Droughts that cause wild fires and dry
up lake beds causing the animals to become dehydrated.
