San Diego Radiosurgery is a service of Palomar Medical Center, a member of the Palomar Pomerado Health System.
What is Novalis Tx? The Novalis Tx treats paGents with a procedure called stereotac)c radiosurgery, a noninvasive method of treaGng tumors with high-‐dose radiaGon precisely aimed from different angles.
How does Novalis Tx work?
• During Novalis Tx radiosurgery sessions, you lie on a treatment table while the machine moves – without touching you – treaGng all areas of the tumor.
• Novalis Tx shapes the radiaGon beams it delivers to
match the shape of the tumor. The cumulaGve dose of radiaGon kills tumor cells while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy Gssue.
• A typical session takes about 15 minutes, reducing
potenGal errors that can occur in longer-‐lasGng procedures.

tumors or lesions)
Novalis Tx Treatment
Technicians help you onto the
treatment table
Novalis Tx system moves around you firing targeted
radiaGon beams
The system periodically takes X-‐ray images and compares them to the CT scan data to track the tumor
If needed, the paGent returns for up to 4 more treatments.
Follow-‐up Follow-‐up imaging
and physical consultaGon to monitor tumor’s
progress
*The procedures required as part of your individualized treatment plan, and the order in which they will occur, will be explained during your consultaGon visit.

Our Center Under the leadership of medical director Dr. Brian Volpp, San Diego Radiosurgery offers advanced cancer treatment by some of the region’s most experienced oncologists and technicians. Opened in 2008, we were one of the first faciliGes in the country to have respiratory gaGng technology, allowing greater protecGon of normal Gssue during treatment.

The US Radiosurgery Network
In partnership with Palomar Health Downtown Campus, San Diego Radiosurgery is a US Radiosurgery facility. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, US Radiosurgery is a division of Alliance Oncology and partners with hospitals and physician groups around the U.S. to develop and operate full-‐body radiosurgical centers. Collec)vely, the US Radiosurgery network of centers has treated thousands of pa)ents since the opening of the company’s first center in 2003. The group of faciliGes is acGvely engaged in research, with physicians regularly presenGng papers and authoring arGcles related to the efficacy of CyberKnife treatment for various types of tumors and lesions. Tumors of the lung, brain and prostate, as well as certain funcGonal disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia, have become key treatment areas throughout the network of centers.
