And strives for understanding That is Christmas.
Every time people forget their differences And realize their love for each other
That is Christmas. May this Christmas bring us Closer to the spirit of human
understanding Closer to the blessing of peace!

Dear Parishioners,
This past October saw the convening of the World Synod of
Bishops by Pope Francis. Next October will see the conclusion of this Synod. The topic is the family. The media made a lot of the more controversial issues which
are always the main concern in our western culture. We sometimes forget that there
are many places in the world that could care less about what we focus on. The real
purpose of the Synod and the agenda of Pope Francis are to highlight the
importance of strong families in our modern world. So many of the problems in our
cities are a result of the breakdown of the family and the search for ties of intimacy in other places that are not so wholesome. This search leads to gang violence, to
fatherless homes and to substance abuse to dull the pain. This feast of the Holy
Family reminds us that Jesus himself became part of a family in entering the human
condition. He affirmed the importance of family relationships in the healthy
development of all of the members. May we rededicate ourselves to this basic
human institution and may our prayers be directed to all of those families that struggle with problems that threaten to tear them apart. May all draw strength from
the Holy Family and their commitment to one another.
