Procedures and Selection Criteria
1. Application forms for the Ohio Distinguished Law Enforcement Service Award must be received no later than May 19, 2006.
2. The Law Enforcement Awards Committee serves as the selection committee, chaired by a member of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. Members of the awards committee represent Attorney General Jim Petro’s Office, Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association, Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, Inc., Ohio Department of Education, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio, a representative of the public, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service.
3. The decision of the Law Enforcement Awards Committee is final.
4. The formal presentation will be made during the Attorney General’s 2006 Conference on Law Enforcement at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 350 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio.
5. The criteria for selection are as follows:
a. The award will be considered for contributions and performance during the law enforcement officer’s career.
b. Contributions must have been significant in the development of Ohio law enforcement.
c. Civic involvement and personal contribution’s impact on the community.
d. Pertinent supporting documentation.
e. The nominee must be a law enforcement officer as defined in the Ohio Revised Code Chapter 2901.01(A)(11).
f. The law enforcement officer must be nominated by:
1. Any municipal, township, county, state or federal official.
2. Any sheriff, chief of police or member of a law enforcement agency.
3. Any retired member of a law enforcement agency.
4. Any fraternal law enforcement organization in the state of Ohio.

d. Pertinent supporting documentation.
e. The nominee must be a law enforcement officer as defined in the Ohio Revised Code Chapter 2901.01(A)(11).
f. The law enforcement officer must be nominated by:
1. Any municipal, township, county, state or federal official.
2. Any sheriff, chief of police or member of a law enforcement agency.
3. Any retired member of a law enforcement agency.
