VegetatedROOFING SYSTEMS
Roofing Solutions For Architects
T remco and our approach to vegetated roofi ng can go a
long way toward easing many of an architect’s burdens
in dealing with sustainable building technology and
low-impact development.
Together with you, we can completely customize a solution to
your clients’ roofi ng needs. Then we’ll assume total responsibility
for its construction and its long-term life, with the industry’s most
comprehensive warranty. Our vegetated roofs provide clients with
greater energy efficiency, improved storm water management
and a number of other benefits. In addition, we are proven
specialists in LEED support.
Tremco’s solutions and support for architects allow you
to meet the sustainability needs of your clients while drastically
lowering project liability and risk.
We Supply Everything – Flexible, Customized Solutions And The Industry’s
Most Extensive Warranty.
Every client, and therefore every vegetated roofi ng system, has diff erent requirements. That’s why Tremco creates a multi-disciplinary team
of internal and external experts to develop a tailored solution with you. Our vegetated roofs are typically composed of:
• A protective, built-in-place waterproofi ng assembly
• Membrane options depending on the application
• Integrated leak detection
• Growing media that are custom-blended and laboratory-tested to ensure that they are correct for the plants and
the environment
• Vegetation that is chosen to meet your client’s wishes while being appropriate for the climate.
Built-in-place vegetated roofs are not only more customizable, but they also employ a sustainable methodology that has been used
successfully for decades.
Many of our specialists are LEED accredited and can help you determine how to maximize a facility’s LEED points. An on-staff horticulturalist
even ensures the correct selection of plants and maintenance protocols, working closely with highly successful landscape designers who bring
your ideas to life on the roof.
But what distinguishes us most is our commitment to long-term risk reduction for your clients and you. Only Tremco manages the entire
vegetated roofi ng project, from the fi rst meeting to the fi nal inspection, including all contractors. You do not need to fi nd nurseries, landscape
designers, soil specialists, etc. With the industry’s most comprehensive warranty, we will assume complete responsibility for the roof for as long
as 20 years, with scheduled maintenance, housekeeping and problem response and resolution. Our warranty even covers plant establishment
for the fi rst three years.
How Vegetated Roofs Benefi t Your Clients.
Tremco’s vegetated roofi ng systems address several sustainability and facility operations issues that are important to clients.
Managing Storm Water Runoff
By absorbing large amounts of rainwater, vegetated roofs slow down, fi lter and reduce the volume of water fl owing into our overburdened
sewer systems. This not only reduces stress on the systems but also can dramatically lower your clients’ storm water fees. It can also eliminate
the need to build costly, on-site water storage facilities.
Greater Energy Effi ciency
Vegetated roofs retain very little heat, unlike traditional roofs, so they do not raise building temperatures. This can help improve HVAC
effi ciency, lowering energy spend by as much as 15% depending on where the client is located. Through evapotranspiration, the plants and
soil of vegetated roofs even help cool the air to lessen the eff ects of Urban Heat Islands (UHIs). UHIs occur in areas with little vegetation and an
abundance of such dark surfaces as roofs, streets and parking lots.
Complementing this is the fact that the plants on a vegetated roof can improve air quality by lowering greenhouse gases and
airborne particulates.
Longer Roof Life
The redundant layers of a vegetated roof from Tremco provide extraordinary weatherproofi ng capabilities. This not only helps keep a
building dry but actually extends the life of a roof. Properly maintained, a Tremco vegetated roof should last for decades, saving money on roof
repair, restoration or even replacement. Our waterproofi ng assemblies also help protect buildings with a Class A fi re rating.
Meeting LEED Requirements
Vegetated roofi ng systems can help a facility qualify for multiple LEED points in as many as four categories. Let our expertise help you
make the most of this opportunity.
Physiological And Psychological Benefi ts
Finally, studies have shown that vegetated roofs have a stress-lowering,
therapeutic eff ect on people. They make facilities more comfortable by helping
moderate the temperature and reduce building noise. Some designs may even
attract such desirable wildlife as butterfl ies and songbirds.

Vegetated Roofing Systems Extensive
Extensive TurfTremco’s Extensive Turf System uses relatively shallow growing media depths of 5" – 6" to create
a healthy growing environment for almost any type of rooftop turf application. Customized
for specifi c end-user applications, these systems also include an aggregate layer, the latest in
sub-surface irrigation and fertigation technology and drainage components.
Extensive Metal and ConcreteExtensive vegetated roofi ng systems use shallow beds that support only hardy, low-growing
vegetation. They require minimal maintenance and irrigation.
