Will present the 25th Isidore and Hilda Dressler Lecture
Title of Talk:
“Sieves in Number Theory”
Thursday, April 25, 2013 2:30 PM
102 Cardwell Hall Kansas State University
Manhattan, Kansas
All are invited
The speaker describes how sieve methods impact number theory, with particular reference to two of his favorite problems: the problem of finding primes in short intervals [x,x+y] where y is a relatively small power of x, and the problem of finding primes in a Piatetski-Shapiro sequence (where the nth term is the integer part of a fixed non-integer power of n). The talk will be accessible to graduate students who are not necessarily specializing in number theory.
