The Creadapt project aims at harness-ing both the creative and the adaptiveabilities of evolutionary algorithms topower software that can autonomouslyand creatively adapt the behavior ofrobots to unforeseen situations. In thetypical scenario, a mobile robot faces asituation that requires adaptation (e.g.a leg is broken or the ground surfacechanged). The robot launches a few ex-periments to investigate the situation; af-ter a few minutes it should be able tocope with the new situation to pursue itsmission until a new adaption is required. Our new algorithms will be demonstratedon wheel-legged hybrid robots becausethese robots can move in many differentways. The ISIR (Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Sys-tems) is one of the main robotics department in France. It is part of the University Pierre and Marie Curie(UPMC), in the center of Paris, France.

Thanks to a recently awarded grant, our team isdeveloping innovative algorithms to allow robots toadapt autonomously to unforeseen situations (mechan-ical failures, radical changes of the ground surface,etc.). In the framework of this project, we are seekinga robotic engineer who will have in charge the de-sign of new wheel-legged hybrid robots. This includesproposing mechanical solutions, CAD design, basicelectronic design and interface with the ROS “metaoperating system”.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for roboticsand beautifully designed robots. He will work closelywith one associate professor, one PhD. student and onepost-doc.

This is a one-year, full-time position starting inFebruary 2013.

Requirements• MS in robotics (or French engineering school),

mechatronics or equivalent field

• Demonstrated ability to design a full robot, fromCAD design to interface with a computer

DetailsPlease submit a resume, a cover letter and any sup-porting material (e.g. photos of designed robots) [email protected]. Documents can be in French orin English.
