INDIAN SYSTEM EARLY WARNING FOR TSUNAMI AND STORM SURGES DEC 2007 – MAY 2011
Environment: J2EE, Linux, AIX, Ascentail Datastage, IBM WAS
Client : National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS)
Team Size : 15
Role : Project Leader
Project Description:
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services provides the best possible ocean
information and advisory services to the society, industry, government and scientific
community through sustained ocean observations and constant improvement through
systematic and focused research.
The IEWS project aims to make a full fledged early warning system for Indian Ocean, based
on earthquake and tidal sensors, speedy communication, alarm networks and disaster
preparedness training in vulnerable regions, giving people time to flee to higher ground
before giant waves strike the coastal areas.
The information about seismic magnitude, location and depth at which an earthquake has
occurred is fed into computers which picks up an appropriate scenario and simulate
formation of tsunamis. After running a set of rules to determine Tsunami, a tsunami alert is
generated with in 30 minutes after the occurrence of Earthquake.
The Centre will generate and give timely advisories to the Ministry of Home Affairs for
dissemination to the public for which a satellite-based virtual private network for disaster
management support has been established. This network enables early warning centre to
disseminate warnings to the MHA, as well as to the state emergency operations centre.

Traffic Server (web proxy and caching solution) DEC 2005 – JUN2007
Environment: C, C++, Linux, Windows
Client : Inktomi Corp (Yahoo), CA, USA
Team Size : 30
Role : Developer
Project Description:
Traffic Server is a high-performance web proxy cache that improves network efficiency and
performance by caching frequently accessed information at the edge of the network. This
brings content physically closer to end users for faster delivery and dramatically reduces
bandwidth usage. Traffic Server is designed to improve content delivery for enterprises,
Internet Service Providers (ISPs), backbone providers, and large intranets by maximizing
existing bandwidth.
Traffic Server is basically a detailed implementation of the HTTP (Hyper text
transfer protocol) which is an application protocol. Traffic Server has been implemented
very efficiently; hence there is a high demand for it. As a product it hasn’t deviated from the
RFC 2616.
M-IXT: Traffic Server Media-IXT (Media-IXT) is an extension of Traffic Server that supports
streaming media content.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance of Traffic Server code, providing solutions within time constraints.
Maintenance of HTTP,NNTP and FTP protocols
Testing – Develop test cases and perform unit testing
