When the Williamstown Community Council started in 1979, Jean Randall was one of the first members. At various times, Jean has acted as secretary. Six years ago Jean instigated the return of the Christmas Parade to Williamstown, after a lapse of 11 years. Jean, as well as her small group of tireless helpers, man-aged to organise this Community Parade. This year, this eighty plus, not so young, lady will be retiring from Community Council.
I would like to encourage the public to design floats, walkers, costumes etc so that this can be our best and biggest Parade ever to thank Jean for her commitment to this special event.
Trivia Night We would like to thank the committee of the Williamstown Memorial Hall for the use of the hall and our sponsors Pam & Greg Pain (Williamstown Post Office), Paper Bark Prints, Williamstown, the Poole Family and other sponsors. Thanks also to our helpers: Jean as quiz master, Rachel Grey, Trish and Graham Sloper, Graeme Randell, Leroy Cook, Glen & Lyn Venning, David Poole and Robyn Dennard. Thank you to all who attended. We had two birthdays (mid seventies) joining us, having travelled up from Adelaide. Glad they mentioned to me that one was having their birthday on the day and the other one the next day. We all joined in wishing them a Happy Birthday. Wished there was a cake! It was good to see them go home with prizes.
She may be her eighties but Jean Randall proved to us that she is not old fashioned. The questions really kept us on our toes with computer literate people trying to figure out, "What colour is the letter L in Google?” Other challenging questions were, “Who was the last treasurer of the Federal Govern-ment?” and, “What colour is the emblem on our state flag?” It sure was nice to see our CFS volunteers and some of the younger people there.
Sue Poole - Chair of the Williamstown Committee Council.

The Lyndoch Branch of RED CROSS meeting in June was the Annual General Meeting. After 13 years of being in the President’s role, Eileen Strachan stood down. Eileen was recognised and thanked for her commitment and dedication to Red Cross Lyndoch Branch. Malinda Melbourne was elected as the incoming President for 2014/2015. Eileen accepted the position of Vice President.. The majority of the officers and com-mittee members retained their positions. Michael Johnson was elected as Emergency Liaison Offi-cer. Christmas Stocking Raffle had been an ex-cellent fundraiser and Red Cross Calling takings in March exceeded those in any previous years. Australian Red Cross awarded a certificate of recognition to the Lyndoch Branch for an out-standing contribution providing years of service to vulnerable people. Progress is being made on the plans for the 75th Birthday Celebrations on Sep-tember 21. Make a note on your calendar. Red Cross meetings are held on the first Monday of the month in the Council Chambers (behind the Library) at 2 pm. Anyone interested in Red Cross and their activities are invited to attend the meet-ing. New members are especially welcome. The annual subscription is only $5. An interesting programme has been arranged for the coming year. The next meeting is on Monday 7 July.

SNIPPETS FROM THE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER.
Some children learnt about plants on their excursion to the Barossa Nursery and Bush Garden and have cleared the garden bed and are now watching their plants grow. Two year 7 students entered the 20th Commonwealth Essay competition, and we, the Williamstown Community Council congratulate them on their effort and wish them luck.
Mr. Williams’ class showed their art work, and have been learning about fractions. He has also taught the children about a new fitness activity called Windows. Preschool had some V.I.P Days, and they looked like fun.
WILLIAMSTOWN UNITING CHURCH GARDEN CLUB
On June 2nd the Williamstown Uniting Church Garden Club met for a “Home” meeting with guest Margaret Rayner from the Gawler Floral Art Club who
demonstrated and told us how to utilise what we have. Her first arrangement consisted of 5 beautiful red roses with “fern” like backing, telling us that
arrangements should be 1½ times the height of the container: and an odd number of blooms. Her second effort had a large leaf life base (which most of us would say was
dead) adding to this several banksias and leaves of autumn tones showing what can be done with imagination and flair.
Birthday greetings extended to Sue, Trish, Julie, Joan R, Fran, Valerie and Pat.
Raffle: 1st prize donated by Margaret won by Fran also Joan R, Betty and Pat.
Competition for floral arrangement won by Eve S, Jean R and Betty C.
Afternoon tea finished with pancakes, capably cooked by John and Des. Many thanks guys for a job well done, and yummy spreads too.
Next meeting July 7th at 1pm Christmas Lunch in Jul y, demonstration of
Christmas decorations and crafts.
Competition: best home made Christmas decoration. Trading Table—trivia—and members to bring Christmas goodies e.g. savouries, mince
pies, sausage rolls etc. please be on time so we can eat at 1pm. Cost $5 as usual.

"Abbeyfield" Picture the type of aged care facility that you would want for your loved ones.
Picture that place within a community that owns, has fundraised for and built this place
over the years, so that people who love where they live don't have to leave when it comes
time for extra care.
Picture the 'op-shop' down the road with its dedicated volunteers lovingly
raising funds to support the good works.
Picture the community member who both shops and donates there because they know where
their dollar goes. That's Abbeyfield. It's not just an aged care facility - it's a community!
Abbeyfield was formed as a not for profit organisation in December 1987. The first facility
was home to 11 residents and opened in 1989 to great community celebration. Recently ex-
tended in 2011, it is now home to include high care to up to 23 residents plus a small retire-
ment village of 13 units
Abbeyfields vision statement: "Abbeyfield will provide people with support and encour-
agement to be involved, extend themselves, build self-esteem and meet new challenges".
Currently there are 29 paid staff and 48 volunteers (growing everyday!) Outside of providing
award winning aged care, the Abbeyfield community offers diversional therapy, a commu-
nity garden, day respite and community meals. Abbeyfield has never been content to be ordi-
nary or mediocre. From the old photos of residents in the dining room, to the games, bowls,
bingo, and music sessions run by an
ex-DJ/dance teacher resident.
This is a home in the true sense of the word.
A one bedroom Rental home is coming available for Independent Living in our Retire-
ment Village.
For information please phone Admin on 85246396 9 – 5pm.
Barossa District Football and Netball Club Mid Season Report
It has been a busy season so far. With the increasing population in the Southern Barossa we are now fielding 11 Football teams (1 additional U9 team) and 14 Net-ball teams as well as AUSKICK and Net-Set-Go. After last years oval quagmire we obtained a grant to renovate the oval, which has made a big difference over most of the oval. Hopefully the final phase of verticoring and topdressing planned for October will fix the North West pocket. The refurbishment of the Clubrooms has made the Clubrooms more welcoming, turning it into a place to be proud of rather than dark and dingy after no changes since it was built. At the senior level things are a bit different this year after having four teams in Grand Finals and winning back to back A Grade football and our first Reserves Grand in the B,L&G competi-tion we lost a number of senior players. The good news is that Sen 3, Sen 7, Jun 1 and Sub Jun 1 Netballers and the U17 and U15 Footballers are in finals contention. Thanks very much to the dedicated few who support about 350 local girls and lads to participate in sport. If you are new to the area and wish to be involved in your local community, new volunteers are always welcome We are particularly looking for someone who can help as finance officer with book keeping skills. Please contact Gerv Mallen Ph: 0403905783 if you are interested, stipend provided.
Plenty on at the Club: Rump and Red night on 12th July, DJ on 2nd August and Quiz night on 9th August.
DFNC Understanding Wine Course 2014 starts 30 July. To enhance your appreciation of local wines i.e. why we have amongst the best wine in Australia where we live, come along to this popular course. This is not a course for snobs but rather for people who wish to better enjoy their local wines by being able to identify and recognize the causes of variations in wine flavour. A tasting plate meal will be provided to hopefully match the wines. During the course you will have the opportunity to taste lots of wine and to talk to other attendees and winemakers about wine character. The course will be conducted 7:00 – 8:30 pm over fi ve Wednesday eve-nings from 30 July – 27 August at five local wineries in the Southern Barossa. The cost of the course is $30 per session with proceeds to go to Barossa District Football and Netball Club.
