Classroom goals are focused on furthering communicativecompetence.
Learners must engage in the pragmatic, authentic, functional use of language for meaningful purposes incooperative and collaborative interaction.
Fluency and accuracy are complementary principles in
effective communication.
Students have to use the language productively andreceptively.
Students must be given opportunities to focus on their learning process, through an understanding of their ownstyles and strategies in order to become autonomous.
The teacher adopts many roles (facilitator, guide, model, needs analyst, «) one of the most important of which is toencourage students to construct meaning through genuineinteractions with others.

A MOMENT TO REFLECTA MOMENT TO REFLECT
Talk to some colleagues (3') next to you
and think of some possible ³sentences´
that could define teachers. Be ready to
share some in lockstep.
Examples:
³She made her students feel important
and intelligent.´
³He prepared students to succeed in lifeby using English.´
³She made music a part of every
learning experience.´
