VenturingVenturingisayouth-

developmentprogramforyoungmenandwomenwhoare14(andhavecompletedtheeighthgrade)through20yearsofage.Itis

• Designedtohelpmeettheneeds,wants,andproblemsofthisyoungadultgeneration.

• Anovelprogramthatincludesemphasisonoutdoor,high-adventureactivitieswhileprovidingmemberswithcommunityservice,fitness,andsocialactivitiesundertheguidanceofexperiencedadults.

• Agreatwayforyoungmenandwomentolearnleadershipand

problem-solvingskillsthatwillhelpthemmatureintoconfident,successfuladults.

PURPOSE:Venturingisaneffectivecoedyoung-adultprogramdesignedtoimprovecharacter,citizenship,andfitnessthroughpositiveexperiencesandactivitiesthatpreparethemtobecomeresponsibleandcaringadults.

PROGRAM:VenturingisbasedonauniqueanddynamicrelationshipbetweenyouthandadultAdvisorsservingasresourcesandmentors.Theresultingprogramisfilledwithexcitingandmeaningfulactivitiesthathelpyouthpursuetheirspecialinterests;togrow;todeveloppersonal,social,andleadershipskills;andtobecomegoodcitizens.

METHODS:VenturinghasbeencarefullydesignedtoachievetheaimsoftheBoyScoutsofAmericaandmeettheneedsofyoungadults.IncludedinthemethodsofVenturingare

• Leadership. OpportunitiestoapplyprovenleadershipskillsareprovidedtotheVenturers.

• Group Activities areinterdependentgroupexperiencesinwhichsuccessisdependentonthecooperationofall.

• Adult Association. WorkingcloselywithadultAdvisorsandotheradultleaders,theyouthofficersleadthecrew.Theadultsserveina“shadow”leadercapacity.

• RecognitioncomesthroughtheVenturingadvancementprogramandthroughtheacknowledgementofayouth’scompetenceandabilitybypeersandadults.

• The Ideals.VenturersareexpectedtoknowandlivebytheVenturingOathandCode.Theypromisetobefaithfulintheirreligiousduties,treasuretheirAmericanheritage,tohelpothers,andtoseektruthandfairness.

• High Adventure.Venturing’semphasisonhighadven-turehelpsprovideteam-buildingopportunities,newmeaningfulexperiences,practicalleadershipapplication,andlifelongmemoriestoyoungadults.

• Teaching Others.AlloftheVenturingawardsrequireVenturerstoteachwhattheyhavelearnedtoothers.Insodoing,theystrengthentheirknowledge,gainconfidence,andacquireskillsthatcanbenefitthemfortherestoftheirlives.

Why Scouting?

TheBoyScoutsofAmericawasincorporatedto

provideaprogramforcommunityorganizationsthat

offerseffectivecharacter,citizenship,andpersonal

fitnesstrainingforyouth.

Specifically,theBSAendeavorstodevelopAmerican

citizenswhoarephysically,mentally,andemotionally

fit;haveahighdegreeofself-relianceasevidencedin

suchqualitiesasinitiative,courage,andresourceful-

ness;havepersonalvaluesbasedonreligiousconcepts;

havethedesireandskillstohelpothers;understand

theprinciplesoftheAmericansocial,economic,and

governmentalsystems;areknowledgeableaboutand

takeprideintheirAmericanheritageandunderstand

ournation’sroleintheworld;haveakeenrespectfor

thebasicrightsofallpeople;andarepreparedtopar-

ticipateinandgiveleadershiptoAmericansociety.

KiwanisclubsandtheBoyScoutsofAmericahave

beenpartnersinservingyoungpeoplesince1913.

Kiwaniansaregreatrolemodels,demonstratinglead-

ership,character,andthevalueofselflessservicetothe

community.TheScoutOathandLawgreatlyparallel

thesixpermanentObjects of Kiwanis. TheKiwanis

motto,“We Build,”iscomparabletothemissionof

Cub ScoutingCubScouting

hasdistinct,age-appropriateprogramlevels.TigerCubsisaone-yearprogramforfirstgrade(or7-year-old)boysandtheiradultpartners.TheCubScoutpro-

gramisforboyswhoareinthesecondthroughfifthgrades(or8,9,and10yearsold).Itis

• Homecenteredandfamilybuilding.• Filledwithfun,action,andadventuretohelpbuild

fitness,character,andgoodcitizenshiptraitsinboysthroughfamilyemphasis.

• Aboy’sfirstexperienceingrowingupasamemberofagroup.

PURPOSE: TheBoyScoutsofAmericacreatedCubScoutingin1930tohelpadvancethecharacterdevelop-mentandspiritualgrowthofyoungboys.ThiscentralmissionofCubScoutingmightbeevenmoreimportanttoboysgrowingupinthe21stcenturythanitwasfortheearlyCubScoutsmorethan70yearsago.

PROGRAM:LocalCubScoutingactivitiesinvolveparents,adultleaders,andfriendsofCubScoutsinhome-centeredprogramsthatteachlifeskills,habits,values,andattitudesconsistentwiththeinterestsoftheirfaithandcommunity.MillionsofboysandtheirfamiliesparticipateinCubScouting,thelargestofthethreeBoyScoutsofAmericamembershipdivisions.

METHODS:CubScoutingencourageseachboytostriveforhispersonalbest,alessonthatwillhelphimachievesuccessasheentersBoyScouting—andthroughouthisadultlife.CubScoutactivitiesencour-agecharacterdevelopment,physicalcoordination,familyunity,andenthusiasmforlearning.CubScout-inghelpsboysdevelopasenseofteamwork,achieve-ment,self-confidence,andrespectforothers.LearningtomasternewskillshelpstheCubScoutrealizehisownabilitiesanddiscoverthathiscan-doattitudeisthefirstsignofsuccessinanyendeavor.Infact,that’stheCubScoutmotto:DOYOURBEST.

Boy ScoutingBoyScoutingis

forboyswhoareatleast101⁄2yearsoldandhavecompletedthefifthgradeorare11through17yearsold.Itis

• Filledwithtroopandpatrolactivitiesdesignedtohelpbuildpersonalskills,teamwork,andleadership.

• Anaction-packedwaytoteachleadership,service,andrespectforothers.

• Adventureandfunoutdoorexperiencesundertheguidanceofadultleaders.

• Aprogramthatprovidesplentyofopportunityforindividualgrowthataboy’sownpace.

PURPOSE: BoyScoutingencouragesboystodevelopphysical,mental,andemotionalfitnessandtoadoptandlivebymeaningfulpersonalstandardsasacorner-stoneforsuccessinlife.ThesevaluesincludethebasicprinciplesfoundintheScoutOathandLaw.

PROGRAM: BoyScoutslearntodeveloppersonalstrengthsbyexampleandthroughhands-onexperi-ence.Activitiesincludefitnessandleadershiptraining,wildernessadventures,andmeritbadgeincentivesforboysmasteringhobbyandcareerskills.Scoutingencouragesboystoexpandandtesttheirpersonalinitiative,courage,andresourcefulness.

METHODS: BoyScoutslearnsomeoflife’smoreseriouslessonswhilehavingfun.Boyslearnaboutimportantvalues,suchashelpingyourselfbyhelpingothers,andhonoringthebasicrightsofothers.BoyScouting’sactivelearningexperiencesincludehiking,camping,andotheroutdoorexpeditions;competitiveindividualandteamsportsactivities;andcommunityorreligiousserviceprojects.ManyBoyScoutsfirstpracticebasicleadership,self-government,andcitizenshipskillsduringregulartroopmeetingsandcampouts.

Ourfuturelieswithourchildren,andoftentimesthe

challengesandproblemstheyfaceseeminsurmount-

canprovideapositivealternativefortheyouthof

theircommunity.

ThroughpartnershipwithScouting,aKiwanisclub

• Providesatime-testedyouthprogramwithcontinuousidentificationwithKiwanis.

• Developsawayforclubmemberstosharepersonalskills,interests,andexperienceswithyouthparticipants.

• Buildsbetteryouthandfutureleadersforthecommunityandthenation.

• SharesthepurposesofKiwanisthroughScouting.• Formsenduringfriendshipsamongfutureleaders

ofthecommunity.• Providesgreaterpotentialforincreasingyourclub’s
