PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

The last week of August was punctuated by a well-attended
joint meeting with 10 other clubs at the Polo Club, when we
all had the opportunity of listening to Ms. Gina Lopez who
heads the Kapit Bisig sa Ilog Pasig. Our club with
RCMEast and Forbes led the joint meeting with our beloved
DG Sid Garcia. A total amount of P50,000 was donated by
our club to the ABS-CBN Foundation for the clean up of
Pasig River, and augmented by other pledges from our
distinct members. The week also witnessed holding of
Governor’s Day held at the Tuloy Sa Don Bosco in Alabang
attended by nearly all clubs in the District and out club
donated P10,000 and 2 sacks of rice. Our club also
donated one nebulizer, CDs for gynecological cancer, and
brochures to Calawis, Antipolo.
Today, we have the blessed opportunity of being anointed
by a distinguished Honorary Member, Fr. Larry Tan, a
Salesian from Don Bosco, who will offer guidance on how
the Holy Spirit can empower Rotarians achieve their
visions. Next week we shall celebrate with all September
born celebrants, together with August born PP Marilou
Romero. The month is expected to end with a TRF dinner
with all Paul Harris donors.

FR. LARRY TAN, S.D.B.,
A Salesian of Don Bosco, was born on November 27, 1953, he grew
up in Makati during his tender years and studied in Don Bosco
Technical Institute - San Lorenzo Village Makati - where he
discovered his priestly and religious vocation. He entered the minor
seminary barely 12 years old in Don Bosco Juniorate, Bacolor
Pampanga in pursuit of his dream of one day becoming a Salesian
priest. He earned his BSE degree and took his Philosophical Studies
in Don Bosco Seminary College, Canlubang Laguna. He graduated
Magna cum Laude in sacred Theology at UST – Espana, Manila. On
December 8 1980 he was ordained a priest at the National Shrine of
Mary Help of Christians in Better Living Subdivision, Parañaque.
As a Salesian priest, he has been assigned in several Don Bosco
Schools in different capacities, mostly concerned with education and
administration. Hi finished his M.A. degree in Educational
Administration in Ateneo de Manila University – Loyola Heights. He
was sent abroad to take up Salesianity Courses in Don Bosco Hall
and Spirituality at the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) in Berkeley ,
USA . after the grenade throwing incident in his office as principal of
Don Bosco Technical Institute, Makati last June 8, 1989.
He has been deeply involved with the Catholic Charismatic Renewal
through the Bukas Loob sa Diyos Covenant Community since 1986
when he attended the BLD Marriage Encounter and life in the Spirit
Seminar. He has been pretty much in demand for preaching retreats
to young and old alike.
Presently he is SALESIAN MISSIONS DIRECTOR in charge of raising
funds for the support of the pastoral projects of the Salesians in The
Philippines.

In preparation for the Literacy Summit to be held on September 10, at the Aerospace Museum,
around 80 clubs in the District joined forces to carry out this project to showcase all the Literacy
project that the District is supporting.

Related to the 3H Grant, we met with Boy, the assistant of Dinky Soliman, to help the club implement 3H
Grant in Antipolo. Boy is the one to visit Calawis and interact with the indigenous people to implement the
project.
The club went to Calawis to follow
up the implementation of 3H Grant.
With us were SVP Roland Zurbano
who would like to link with our club
and Munti del Rosario. The Club
donated nebulizer, CD containing
gynecological cancer and
pamphlets.

Joint meeting with RCMakati led by SVP Felix Amparo and RCM West led by SVP
Fern Pena, our club co-hosed the visit of former President Joseph E. Estrada as our
guest speaker. The forum was well attended and held in Manila Peninsula Hotel over
noon time on September 8, 2009. Pres. Jing Sarao shared the RCMSL’s plans, goals
and objectives during the President’s time. Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay introduced
Pres. Erap. Rtn. Shelley Lazaro delivered the Invocation.
