Do you want to start your journey into further education, but English isn’t your first language?
Or is a language barrier getting in the way of your everyday life?
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses are for students who have a different first language but live or work in the United Kingdom.
Tutors at Oldham College are experts at giving students confidence when conversing and engaging with others in English. We focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and also work on grammar, spelling and pronunciation. In addition we run specific courses at Level 1 combining ESOL with Business, Hair and Beauty, Health and Social Care and Construction.

ENTRY GUIDELINES FOR OUR COURSES
*For some Level 2 courses Maths & English Functional Skills Level 1 will be accepted as an alternative to GCSEs.
HOW TO APPLY
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT...
Firstly, we advise all students and prospective students to do their research. Look at our website, come to our open days or school visit days, speak to our current students to find the right course. Next, apply online through our simple and user-friendly application process.
Successful applicants will then be interviewed. Applicants will have an informal conversation with a course tutor/members of the admissions and apprenticeship team (if applying for an apprenticeship) or the schools team. We will ask about motivations for coming to Oldham College and for undertaking the chosen course.
Candidates will need to provide evidence of qualifications such as GCSEs, A Levels, BTECs, course specific qualifications or portfolios (for design courses specifically).
Candidates should be able to demonstrate at interview that they are punctual, reliable and committed for the duration of the course they apply for. Some courses may require an initial assessment to gauge an applicant’s suitability for the course. We do also accept applications at some open days, so candidates should bring the necessary documentation.
