Letter from the Pastor
Veryoftentoday,congregationsfeelasiftheyarestranded,overlooked,backedintoacorner,andevenforgotten.There’snodoubtthattherehavebeengreatchangesinthecommunityaroundusandthechurchhastoadaptaswell,butwebelievethatcongregationsfeelthewaytheydobecausewehavealreadychangedsignificantlyandmovedawayfromourrootswhichmadeMethodismpassionate,spirit-filled,andempowering.MethodisminAmericabeganasalaymovement.ThisSpirit-ledmovementwasheadedbyRobertStrawbridge,notfarfromhereinNewWindsor.ThisfirstcircuitriderwasneverordainedbuttherecameamomentinhisspiritualjourneywhenhedecidedtobeginpreachingtheWordofGod.Onthatdayhesaddledhishorse,rodeawayfromhishomeonSam’sCreek,
andamovementwasborn.Themessageofthesediscipleswassimple:LoveGodandloveyourneighbor.Thecircuitridersaccomplishedthreeimportantgoals:1. Inspiringhope2. Empoweringthelaypeople3. Creatinganetworkofcongregationstoenhanceministryinthecommunityandtheworld.
Thatistheinspirationforthismethodofministrythatweareintroducing.Congregationsoftenfeelasthoughtheyareverymuchaloneinthisworld,butwewanttochangethatmisconception.Therearetwoever-presentconstantsinthelifeofthechurch:thepresenceoftheHolySpiritandthelaity.ForthemonthsofJanuaryandFebruary,acoupleofboldpreachers(bothordainedandlay)aimto

reconnectseveralofourchurcheswiththesamethreegoalsasearlycircuitriders.Therearefivecongregationsinvolved(StoneChapel,Zion,Prospect,MarvinChapel,andHowardChapelRidgeville)andatleastsevenpreachers.WewilleachbepreachingatoneofthedifferentcongregationsonthesecondandfourthSundaysofeachmonthontopicsthatwecompiledtogetheraheadoftime.Bytheendofthetwomonths,eachchurchwillbeonthesamepage,havingheardthesamemessagesfromdifferentspeakers.Eachweek,eachchurchwillhaveserviceattheirregulartimeandbeencouragedwithapowerfulmessage.IwillstillbehereatProspectandMarvinChapelonthefirstandthirdSundaysandthrough-outtheweeksothatyouwillallstillhaveaccesstomeasyourpastor.Attheconclusion,wewanttoinviteallofthecongregationstofellowshiptogetheronMarch2.Moredetailswillfollow.ThismovementisdesignedtooffertheGoodNewsofChristtoallpeople.ItisourhopethatwecanjumpstartsomehopeandexcitementinanewwayasweseektobringcongregationstogetherandtoempowerthepeopleofGodtomaketomorrowbetterthantoday.Thisisareturntoourpastaswemoveintothefuture.Wehopetobefaithfuldisciplesasweunitelaityandclergyinthecommonjourneyoffaith.
