Promote your iOS App Outside the App Store

If your App makes it to the "New and Noteworthy" editorial section in the App Store, great exposure for your app is a done deal. But lets face it, with thousands of new apps making their debut in the app store and only 24 available spots on the editorial section, chances are your app probably won't make the cut. Rather than sitting around waiting for Apple to notice your app, why not come up with a well planned marketing strategy and go all out touting your app on various sites, lists, and blogs that focus on your niche audience. Get a website up pronto! Set up a web page for your app on the site and promote it. Post previews of your app. Don't stop there. If you have a mailing list, a blog, a twitter feed, etc. Publicize your app there as well. A well maintained website lends credibility to your app. Users get the impression of that developers will support the app in future upgrades as well. Even if you are cutting corners elsewhere, make sure you divert enough resources for the website. Be sure to check it regularly for comments and feedback. Promo Codes Each version of your app is given 50 Promo codes by Apple. These codes allow users to download the app from the App Store for free. Don't be careless with these codes. If you want a particular site to review your app, write to them and don't give out promo codes until a reviewer specifically writes asking you for one. This will ensure maximum utilization of your available codes and in the end more reviews for your app. Promo codes can be requested in iTunes Connect. Advertising This is quite the conundrum for app developers. Whether to opt for paid advertising or not. If you have a quality app which you believe in, and you have resources available, then by all means go for it. Targeted advertising can bring in buyers. If you can make enough sales to get into the top 100 of your app's category, you will have recovered your advertising costs many times over. Create a rapport with existing users If you already have several apps on the app store, chances are that you have amassed a substantial user base. Try to market to these existing users. You could do this with a mailing list, but at an in-app Newsline or ad that'd displayed to your users when they launch your app would be way more effective. Press Releases Write a press release. This may be a shot in the dark, but it might get your app noticed on traditional media- newspapers, magazines, TV shows, etc. Try and talk to the media in your local area, to see if they might do a story on your app. Local media usually concentrate on local stories.

Web Add networks This can be a great strategy if you choose the right site. Target sites most likely to be visited by your niche audience. Sites like Facebook and Twitter are a magnet for all types of users and provide tremendous exposure to your app. The downside is that it may be quite expensive. There are also some iPhone app review sites that offer advertising. Theapplebites.com, for example, is a site that can give your app great exposure. Developing an iPhone app is just half the work done. The mobile app development should always go hand in hand with a well planned marketing strategy. This significantly improves your apps odds at success. So the next time you have an app ready to launch. Go all out promoting it first, and then sit back and see your app downloads skyrocket!
