Future phases of the Training Center will be completed as additional funding is available and will be based on the meeting the most important training needs for the Joint Powers Agreement members.
Sustainability and the EnvironmentDesign and construction of the new center will follow the City of Maplewood’s sustainable building goals
as well as address the B3 Sustainable Building Guidelines as required for state-funded buildings. For example, geothermal heating/cooling and solar energy alternatives are being considered along with landscape site
elements for water conservation and to incorporate the Marshland Environmental Enhancement concepts. As part of the Marshland concepts, trail connections adjacent to and within the property area are also planned so that the environmental enhancements surrounding the Training Center can be more easily accessed by the general public and available for educational programs.

East Metro Public Safety Training CenterChallenge: Inadequate Training Center in the north and east metropolitan area for firefighting and public safety agencies to properly and efficiently train to help protect them during incidents and to help save more lives.
Response: A multijurisdictional partnership to build and operate a training center for local fire departments, police, and emergency management agencies and training organizations. A combined total of 1,400 firefighters and 3,000 police officers cover a population of 716,158 in Ramsey and Washington counties.
Firefighters and Public Safety Officers need to maintain multidiscipline training in: defensive tactics; live burn training; hazardous materials and spill response; search and rescue; and confined space exercises and specialized training.
The Training Center will be built on a 20-acre parcel that is currently owned by MnDOT and located immediately west of the intersection of Trunk Highway 120 and CSAH 5.
Project FundingFunding for the Phase 1 of the $4.3 million project comes from several sources to secure the site, conduct site preparation, conduct environmental studies, make intersection improvements, design and create necessary infrastructure, prepare architectural designs, and to construct the overall center.
Project PartnersSeveral project partners came
together to recognize the need, develop the idea,
secure funding, and to break ground and construct.
