Summary
These instructions will walk you through the 2018 “Installation Wizard” for Profitstar
Web Services—a component provided for clients running ProfitStars’ Optimizer product.
Profitstar Web Services allows Optimizer users to view PROFITstar® and PROFITability®
data.
With the assistance of the Installation Wizard, the installation of these products is a
straightforward process. Remember that for all types of installations, the person actually
installing the software must have “Administrator” rights.
Note: Following the successful initial installation of Profitstar Web Services for
Optimizer, the Optimizer functionality will still need to be activated within PROFITstar.
Your Client Services Analyst can help you perform this action.
Prerequisites
Internet Information Services
The server must also be running Microsoft’s Internet Information Services (IIS). The
following versions are supported:
IIS 7.0 or later (Windows Server® 2008 R2, or later)
Additionally, the following IIS features must be enabled:
.NET Extensibility
ASP.NET 4.5
IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility
Static Content
Profitstar Web Services does not support any versions of Windows desktop operating
systems or Windows Server 2008 (and prior), since these systems run earlier versions of
IIS.
.NET Framework 4.5
Finally, Profitstar Web Services also requires .NET Framework 4.5 features for Windows
Communication Foundation (WCF) support.
If .NET Framework, version 4.5, files are not detected on a machine being targeted by
the installation, the program will attempt to download the necessary files from
Microsoft’s website.
If any of the server or client machines do not allow a connection to the Internet, the
.NET Framework files will need to be downloaded on another PC and then manually
installed on the appropriate machine.
The .NET Framework files are available on the Microsoft website and can be downloaded
from the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30653

Other Considerations
The Profitstar Web Services web application may be installed on the same server that
is running the Profitstar Server service, or on a separate server.
While the Profitstar Web Services component must be kept in sync with the current
Profitstar Server version, the Profitstar Web Services for Optimizer installation may
be run before or after the Profitstar Server installation.
Manual changes to the Configuration.xml file may be required. This file is installed
on the Windows server where the Profitstar Service resides. The default path to this
file is:
C:\ProgramData\Profitstar\DataTier\Configuration.xml
See Appendix A for more information.

Profitstar Web Services for Optimizer Installation
When you download the 2018.xx ProfitstarWebServices.exe file from JHA
Downloads, make sure that you install the file that matches the version of PROFITstar
that you are currently running.
Click Next to progress through the Installation Wizard screens.
When the Next button is pressed, installation will verify that your system meets the
software prerequisites mentioned earlier. If a prerequisite is not met, an error message
is displayed and the installer will not permit you to proceed.
If necessary, IIS can be installed (or upgraded) using the standard Windows
mechanisms for the machine’s operating system.

Appendix A – Configuration and Publishing Issues
The Configuration.xml File
This file is installed on the Windows server where the Profitstar Service resides. The default
path to this file is:
C:\ProgramData\Profitstar\DataTier\Configuration.xml
Before the Optimizer features will be fully functional, the Profitstar Service
Configuration.xml file needs to identify two things: the location of the existing
BiNavigator Export folder and the name of the database on the SQL Server to be used
as the “Published” database.
1. The location of the BiNavigator Export folder must be defined before
PROFITstar/PROFITability data can be successfully published.
When 2012 data is converted and PROFITstar/PROFITability data has been previously
published, the path to the existing BiNavigator Export folder is added to the first
line of the Configuration.xml file. A UNC path is required if the path is not local to the
server machine running the Profitstar Service.
If the program cannot find the folder, an error message is displayed and the
publishing action fails.

2. The database on the SQL Server that will be used as the “Published” database needs
to be identified. This database is used by the web app for data retrieval and for
launching PS/PA when Optimizer Only users enter the client applications. If
converting from a 2012 release, these entries will be automatically added. No
modifications of the Configuration.xml file should be needed.
Users with improperly modified Configuration.xml files, who try to publish, will
receive an error message.

The Published Database
When Optimizer data is successfully published, a new database appears in the
institution’s Login screen.
Optimizer Only users can log into a “Published” database to view a read-only snapshot of
the institution’s data.
