The ideal tool for diagnostic testing and condition assessment
The Primary Test ManagerTM (PTM) is the ideal software tool for
diagnostic testing of power transformers, current transformers,
and circuit breakers.
PTM assists you, e.g. test engineers and asset managers, in
testing and assessing your equipment according to applicable
international IEEE and IEC standards and guidelines* while keeping
your testing time to a minimum. All test and assessment results are
automatically stored in a structured and easily accessible database.

Available tests with PTM
PTM provides a uniform and user-friendly PC interface using
OMICRON’s multi-functional CPC test systems.
Thereby, you can perform a wide range of tests on power
transformers, current transformers and circuit breakers as
well as associated assets such as bushings, surge arresters
and tap changers.

Execution of diagnostic tests
Customized test plans
Based on the nameplate values, PTM
generates a customized test plan
according to current standards and
guidelines for each asset. Thereby,
PTM provides you a comprehensive
test plan to thoroughly assess the
condition of your asset.
By selecting or de-selecting
individual tests, you can tailor the
test procedure to your specific needs
with minimum effort. At the same
time, test plans can be configured in
advance to enable fast and effective
measurements onsite.
2
The Primary Test ManagerTM
(PTM) supports you in
performing measurements and
guides you step by step through
the entire test procedure.
Detailed nameplate data
In order to assist you during testing,
PTM helps you in defining your
asset with specific nameplate
views. It indicates mandatory and
recommended parameters, making
data entry fast and easy.
You can enter information about
the location as well as nameplate
parameters, such as serial number,
vector group, or voltage and current
ratings.
Once the data is entered, it can be
re-used for all tests in the future.
1
5
Easy connection due to wiring diagrams
Pre-configured wiring diagrams,
depending on the selected asset
and connected test set, assist you
with setting up the test equipment
in the correct way.
In doing so, you minimize the
likelihood of measurement errors,
speed up your testing process and
obtain accurate test results even
faster.
3 Fully PC operated
PTM enables you to control and
operate the connected test set
directly from a computer.
Results are automatically stored and
organized in the database on your
PC and are available for analysis and
reporting. Therefore, there is no
need to retrieve test results or files
from the test equipment after
performing measurements.
4 Automatic assessment of measurement results
Limit values can be set according to
current international standards and
guidelines. They are based on many
years of OMICRON expertise.
An automatic assessment of the test
results is displayed based on the
specified limit values. This allows a
fast, first assessment of your asset’s
condition.

Automatic assessment
Limit values can be selected according to applicable
guidelines or defined based on your individual customized
limit profiles.
A real-time overview of the test results is given during
the measurement, including a progress update with an
indication of any open tasks.
An instant “pass/fail” assessment of the test results is
displayed based on specified limit values. In addition,
a tooltip informs you which test parameters should be
investigated.
Result analysis and reporting
6
Graphical comparison of test results
The graphical comparison function is an additional option
for assessing the test results. It provides further indication
regarding the quality of the measured values.
You can easily compare measurement results of a previous
test by loading them into the same diagram, for example
using previous test results of the same or similar asset.
Visualization of test results
Test results and their “pass/fail” assessment are visualized
within the table view and can hint towards further
investigation, if necessary.
The graphical display helps you to get detailed information
regarding the measured value and its assessment. Thereby,
test results and their reference values, e.g. nameplate
values, can be compared side-by-side in one diagram.
7
Customized, individual reports
PTM supports you in adapting your reports to your
needs. Therefore, you can choose to generate your
report in Microsoft Word™ and as a PDF file.
You can decide which parts are included in the test
report and provide comments on every test.
Depending on the test you can choose from different
types of result tables and diagrams contained in your
test report.
Furthermore, you can incorporate your company logo,
photos and other test results in your individualized test
report.
All-in-one reports
PTM automatically generates reports including all
asset-related information and performed tests. This
gives you an comprehensive overview of the test
object, test results and assessment.
The all-in-one reports per asset include:
> Information on location
> Nameplate information/values
> Overview on performed tests, obtained test results
and the assessment of the test results
Management of location, asset and test data
Well-structured data management
The well-structured PTM database allows you to define
and manage locations, assets, jobs and reports in an
easy and fast way.
Once your asset data is entered, you can re-use it to
generate new jobs or to add similar assets. The
user-friendly design helps you in finding all asset-related
data needed for the execution and assessment of tests.
Well-prepared and with lots of saved time you can
start the guided workflow for performing your
measurements.
For ensuring the all-in-one approach of PTM,
all kinds of files can be attached to the performed tests
or compiled as asset or location data.
Thus, you can also store test results from measurements
which are not supported by PTM in the database,
e.g. oil quality data.
8
Access your database in the Manage view of PTM
Open data exchange
PTM supports data exchange between different test
systems:
> You can export raw data of test results to
Microsoft Excel™ and in XML format
> You can generate reports in Microsoft Word™
or save as a PDF file
> You can import and export asset and location
data via Microsoft Excel™

Frequency Response of Stray Losses (FRSL)
The short circuit impedance / leakage reactance test
allows you to detect short circuits between parallel
strands over the frequency.
These short circuits cannot be detected by means
of line frequency testing or via other tests such as
transformer ratio or DC winding resistance.

you can detect damaged on-load and de-energized

Power factor / dissipation factor with variable frequency
This measurement provides you with values that
cannot be determined with individual measurements
at line frequency. It enables you to determine whether
or not moisture has penetrated the cellulose or oil
has been contaminated. Furthermore, measuring at
variable frequency helps you to decide whether more
intensive analysis or immediate corrective measures
are necessary.
