Romeet Gallery is a new contemporary art gallery opened by Phare Ponleu Selpak. Established as a Phnom Penh platformfor emerging and established alumni of the Phares Visual Art School, Romeet promises to be a dynamic space for
exhibitions, talks, workshops and local and international exchange.
To inaugurate the space, new Gallery Manager, Kate OHara (Co-curator of the recent Our City Festival) and Gallery
Assistant, Khenory Sok, have organized a group exhibition at Romeet showcasing the diverse practices of the Phares staple
artists. New figurative and portraiture work by Sin Rithy depicting the trauma of the Khmer Rouge period will be exhibited.
Pen Robit, who is has just departed for further study in France, will present new portraiture, further pushing his distinctive
abstract style, using purely line work to express the emotions of his poverty stricken subjects. Having recently returned
from further study at the Pivaut Applied Art School in France, Nov Cheanick, will exhibit works exploring new techniques
from his time there. Also included in the exhibition will be work by Hour Seyha, Lao Lon and Loeum Lorn.

as painting live on a 7 metre long canvas on location. Thang Sothea Of Top Art Gallery will be exhibiting paintings atRomeet from his series that plays with the signifier and the signified in typography, distorting and animating Khmer

This is a really exciting time for Battambang artists with the opening of several new spaces in Battambang itself, it seemed
inevitable that a professional gallery be opened in Phnom Penh to share the energy and new developments. Kate
OHara, Gallery Manager
