Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
My Dear Parishioners, My intention was to write about this a few weeks ago, but a number of other more pressing matters arose. Thus, though this may be “old news” to some of you or you might have already
had the chance to check out and sign up for FORMED, since many pa-rishioners have not yet, I wanted to offer you a little more information. The parish is truly offering you a gift by having subscribed to this online platform. A great number of excellent Catholic resources are now at your fingertips at no cost to you and can be available to you wherever you may be. There is definitely something for everyone, youth included! As mentioned at Mass, our parish has subscribed to a dynamic new online platform called FORMED. Every parishioner will have 24/7 ac-cess to the best Catholic content on any device, including your computer, smartphone and tablet with internet access. With FORMED you’ll find video programs that explain the Catholic faith, explore the deepest mean-ing of marriage, receive Bible studies on a variety of topics and includes inspiring audio talks. You’ll find presenters like Dr. Tim Gray, Dr. Ed-ward Sri, Dr. Mary Healey, Chris Stefanick, Dr. Scott Hahn and a lot more. They’re all part of our parish subscription. You can be sure we’ll be using a lot of these videos as part of our catechesis and study groups here in the church. Considering the amount of programs out there that undermine our faith at every opportunity, FORMED is a great way to bol-ster what we believe, why we believe it and how to live it out every day. FORMED beautifully and compellingly presents the Catholic faith - on demand. Here’s how easy it is to get FORMED: Go to FORMED.org and use the parish pass code: 8E24TD. My hope is that, while we are offering ongoing religious educational op-portunities at the parish for everyone, smaller groups will form to do their own independent studies – men’s groups, women’s groups, mar-ried couples, singles, young adults, families, etc. Often times some of the best formation takes place in homes, where the setting can be more casual and intimate, so that individuals can go deeply into issues at their own chosen pace. I would encourage you to not only get involved with parish classes, but also consider inviting a group of people to gather to-gether to journey forward in your spiritual lives. You might even just get together with some friends and acquaintances for a Catholic move night once a month. The religious films offered on formed are terrific!

“Master, I want to see.”
In today’s Gospel, Bar-timaeus calls to the “Son of David,” by do-ing so he recognizes
Jesus as a prophet and wonder-worker. Although others try to silence him, his plea becomes all the louder. Finally he gets Jesus’ attention and is brought before the Master. “What do you want me to do for you?” Our Lord asks. Barti-maeus’ request is simple he wants to see.
The blind man’s longing for vi-sion, or for the light that will shat-ter the darkness he lives in, was a longing for something more basic, a longing for the right path, the path a blind person cannot see. It is the path to God that one must be able to see in all its’ stages and directions, before he can embark upon it. His longing for the light is part of the reason Jesus heals him and this healing in turn allows Bartimaeus to follow Jesus. Alt-hough the Lord tells him to go his way the beggar instead chooses to follow the Lord.
With the healing of the blind beg-gar, one who was cut off from the light can now see clearly enough to find his way home.
Bartimaeus speaks for us all. As long as we live in darkness and fear, we are unable to follow the Lord. Let us pray for the vision to see the truth in God’s teachings and the grace to follow where He leads. Let us pray that we may all find our way home.
Pax Vobiscum

Carnation Sunday We have a tradition in our parish of
celebrating the souls of our loved ones that have passed away in the last year with a flower. We call it Carnation Sunday
because we honor the deceased with white carnations at the altar. If anyone in the
parish has a friend or relative who passed away between November 1, 2014, and November 1, 2015, please notify us.
Rose DiCapo | 916.486.0348
Carnations will be taken up at all Masses the weekend of:

Bereavement Reception Ministry
BEREAVEMENT is looking for a few
good hands!
OBJECTIVE of this group:
—To give help to those who have lost their loved ones by taking the
responsibility of a reception away from the family.
This gives the family time to do the other things that need to be done in
preparation for the funeral.
The families are so appreciative!
We need some younger people to head up the Ministry. We also need people to
make phone calls for food, set up, provide food and serve at the reception.
Please consider offering your time to this wonderful ministry.
