Explain why women run a higher risk for bone fracture after menopause?
Menopause
Ovaries decreased production of the
reproductive hormone estrogen
Lack of estrogen Enhance ability of osteoclasts to
absorb bone
Osteoblasts aren't similarly nourished to rebuild the bone
More bone is lost and women can develop osteoporosis
which increases the risk of sudden and unexpected
fractures.
