What does this shift in practice mean for your child?

Establishing Worthwhile Learning Goals

I want my students to understand

that...

I want my students to be

able to... (real world competencies)

Page 6: Powerful possibilities

Projects will focus on:• tasks that are authentic

• work that fosters deep understanding

• building and requirement of elaborated forms of communication

• building and acquiring real-world competencies

• authentic use of technology

Page 7: Powerful possibilities

So what does this look like in action?

All day everyday will not be projects but all tasks will be engaging.

The 2nd exciting change...

Combining two groups of learners and

two teachers= Powerful

Possibilities in Learning!

Page 9: Powerful possibilities

Organization

• Students will be divided into two ‘teams’

•Teams will report to their teacher for everything from: book orders to playground issues

•Both teachers will plan, guide learning, and assess learning for all learners

•Parents contact their child’s Team leader for any issues, but will be able to talk to either of us for academic progress

The Final powerful change...

Our current environment was based on the factory model to

mass produce learners

Our ‘new’ model is designed for mass customization

I need to know things, and my teacher is the

expert.

I work with my teacher, and peers (in my classroom and in the world) to create new understandings.

Beyond the space...

•Using technology as tools to deepen our understanding and connect with our global community

•Connecting with experts

Page 12: Powerful possibilities

Will this be different than what you are used to? YES!

Will your child learn less? Definitely NOT...

• students will be engaged

• students will have fun with their learning and be co-planners

• the environment will be flexible and more conducive to a variety of learning styles

• all students will have a voice and be able work based on his/her individual strengths
