Christ the Redeemer
• Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil, created by French sculptor Paul Landowski and built by Brazilian
engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with French engineer Albert
Caquot. Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida fashioned the face.

Sugar Loaf Mountain• Sugar Loaf, Portuguese Pão de Açúcar, landmark peak
overlooking Rio de Janeiro and the entrance of
Guanabara Bay, in southeastern Brazil. Named for its
shape, the conical, granitic peak (1,296 feet [395
metres]) lies at the end of a short range between Rio de
Janeiro and the Atlantic Ocean. At its base is the fortress
of São João. A cable car runs from its summit to the
adjacent Urca Hill, near the foot of which is the site of the
Praia Vermelha Campus of the Federal University of Rio

Brasilia
• Brasília - Brazil’s capital since 1960. It is a
planned city distinguished by its white,
modern architecture, chiefly designed by
Oscar Niemeyer. Laid out in the shape of
an airplane, its “fuselage” is the
Monumental Axis, 2 wide avenues flanking
a massive park. In the “cockpit” is Praça
dos Três Poderes, named for the 3

reflecting the country's mix of native and
immigrant populations, and its continental
size as well.

the dish that looks most delicious to you. I
would personally pick Moqueca

The arts - Carnival
• The Carnival in Rio de Janeiro
(Portuguese: Carnaval do Rio de Janeiro)
is a festival held every year before Lent
and considered the biggest carnival in the
world with two million people per day on
the streets. The first Carnival festival in
Rio started in 1723! Other carnivals take
place all over Brazil at this time as well!
Task
• As you saw in the clip the outfits are very
colourful and bright.
• Design your own carnival outfit. Make it as
colourful and bright as you can. Also put your
own stamp on the outfit as well. This could
included your interests. If you want, design a
float to match your theme! There are some

• Brazil is the most successful national team in the FIFA
World Cup, the main football international competition,
being crowned winner five times: 1958, 1962, 1970,
1994 and 2002. Brazil also has the best overall
performance in the World Cup, both in proportional and
absolute terms, with a record of 73 victories in 109
matches played, 124 goal difference, 237 points, and 18
losses.[12][13] Brazil is the only national team to have
played in all World Cup editions without any absence nor
need for playoffs.[14] The seleção is likewise the most
successful national team in the FIFA Confederations Cup
with four titles: 1997, 2005, 2009 and 2013.

• The 2016 Summer Olympics (Portuguese: Jogos Olímpicos de Verão de
2016), officially known as the Games of the XXXI Olympiad (Portuguese:
Jogos da XXXI Olimpíada) and commonly known as Rio 2016, was an
international multi-sport event that was held from 5 to 21 August 2016 in Rio
de Janeiro, Brazil, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on
3 August. Rio was announced as the host city at the 121st IOC Session in
Copenhagen, Denmark, on 2 October 2009.
• More than 11,000 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees took part,
including first-time entrants Kosovo, South Sudan, and the Refugee
Olympic Team.[2][3] With 306 sets of medals, the games featured 28 Olympic
sports, including rugby sevens and golf, which were added to the Olympic
program in 2009. These sporting events took place at 33 venues in the host
city and at five separate venues in the Brazilian cities of São Paulo, Belo
Horizonte, Salvador, Brasília, and Manaus.

rainforest, famed for its biodiversity. It’s
crisscrossed by thousands of rivers,
including the powerful Amazon.
Deforestation
• Cattle ranching is the leading cause of
deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.
... Since 2009 major cattle buyers and the
Brazilian government — pushed by
environmental campaigners — have
cracked down on deforestation for cattle
production. However, the situation is still
very worrying…
