Research Bonsai:Bonsai originated in China. Legend states that bonsai was created for the emperor of the Han Dynasty (206 BC - 220 AD). The purpose was to create a miniature landscape of the entire empire in the courtyard of the emperor.
During the Heian period (794 – 1191 A.D.), Buddhist monks brought bonsai to Japan. It was there that Bonsai became popular, first among the elite, and later among all classes of Japanese society. Japan is uniquely credited with developing the art of bonsai into the sophisticated system of form and complimentary embellishments that exist today.
By the mid-19th century, bonsai was introduced to the rest of the world. Today, bonsai has become a powerful symbol of Japanese culture, representing their philosophy related to human beings, their souls, and the nature world around them.
Research Meditation:Meditation is an ancient spiritual practice. Although there is little recorded history related to early meditational practices, it is believed to have originated in ancient Asia. One theory states that meditation was discovered by the trance-line effect of staring into flickering flames.
The first recorded reference to meditation is that of Buddha, one of history’s major advocates of meditation. He first started spreading meditational spirituality in Asia around 500 B.C.E. Indian scriptures called tantras mention meditation techniques 5,000 years ago. Over thousands of years, meditation has evolved into a structured practice. It was spread to Western society only recently, gaining popularity in the West in the mid-20th century.
In the 1960s and 1970s, many professors and researchers began testing the effects of meditation and learned its many benefits. Despite major changes, meditation has endured over the years, its original Buddhist, Hindu-Buddhist, and Hindu-based Eastern-style meditational practices are still the most popular today.
