QUOTES
“It is great to experience how important making music is to these kids' lives.
I especially love the ‘aha’ moment that comes across their faces when they learn a new
concept, a fi ngering, or a way out of a problem particular to their instrument;
and the buzz of excitement following a listening assignment.”
– Ben Kono, Teaching Artist
“Each artist brings a vast knowledge of pedagogy, as well as professional
experience playing on Broadway and at other prestigious venues through-
out New York City, to the class in a way that is engaging and informative. This wonderful opportunity aff orded
to our student musicians has been invaluable. As young maturing musi-
cians, the success of their develop-ment wouldn’t be possible without the dedication, passion and skill conveyed
by the teaching artists at each lesson.” -Will Hakim, PopsEd
Honoree 2019 & Music Teacher, IS 318
“It was intriguing to see how students who struggled recalling facts in a class-room were able to recall a number of songs for a performance, both the words and the gestures. It shows what music could do to learning and provides an insight into trying to incorporate more music into the everyday learning experi-ences.” -Laura Kavourias, Assistant Principal, PS 171
“Students who have challenging be-haviors were able to focus and follow
directions, as evidenced by their partici-pation and joy.” -Barbara Leto, Principal, PS 303
“Kids on Stage was a truly amazing experience for Leo and us. He was very fortunate to be able to attend the program. He says everybody was so kind
and nice to the students. I heard many amazing stories from him...before the concert, Cyndi came to them and encouraged them to have fun, Mr. Reineke was able to read all the student names fl uently and correctly, the lady who
sat next to him on the stage plays a Stradivarius and he saw Boy George without makeup...It was one of the best days of his life!”
-Yuko Oiwa, parent of violin student, Leo Oiwa
“Many of the students I teach as a PopsEd Teaching Artist have never had the chance to play a musical instrument, even as they enter into high school. They have not sang in a choir and they have had no music classes of any kind in school... The New York Pops recognizes the deep need for music in children's lives and works tirelessly to initiate programs, activities, concerts, and residencies to make this a reality. Teaching music and guitar in schools through The New York Pops has been some of the most joyful, meaningful and rewarding work I have done. They are making a diff erence in the world.” – Matt Davis, Teaching Artist
I just wanted to write and thank you again for the tickets to last night’s
concert! It was such a wonderful and enriching family event for our kids! We had an amazing time, and I can’t wait to see them Monday to debrief even more! I really can’t thank you enough
on behalf of our music program. It was eye opening and exciting, and this is the sort of opportunity that many of
our families wish to provide but don’t always know how to provide. -Tara Brancato, Music Teacher,
PS/MS 219
“My family would like to thank NY Pops with the opportunity to see last night’s performance…the concert was a super experi-ence! We were able to sit with lots of other families. The children were able to enjoy the music event together. As per Imogen, our third grader, after the fi rst two songs, “This concert is amazing mummy”. All I can say is “Wow” to that. Watching her super positive reaction to the music and stage performance made us pretty speechless and we know that she will never forget the experience…hands down, they LOVED it. We won’t forget this positive experience as a family but also as a PS 144 community. We hope that we can continue to expose our children to events like this.”- Stephanie Spence, Mum to Imogen and Georgina, PS 144 Queens

experience I’ve ever had as I was in the balcony looking down. It was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. After I came back from the performance, I just
