The Poplar House, and its surrounding 36 acres, was the second largest privately owned residential tract in Radnor Township (a suburb of Philadelphia). The Federalist-style mansion, with Greek Revival elements, was built in 1902 and demolished in late 2010. It was designed by architect, Lindley Johnson, for the family of Daniel Barringer, the noted geologist who became famous for being the first person to discover evidence of a meteorite crater on Earth. In 1914, the mansion was purchased by the Harrison family and remained in their possession until 2008. These bricks, some of the earliest examples made by the extrusion manufacturing method, were originally laid on edge in a herringbone pattern to create the surrounding pathways and patios of the home.
