Romanian Border Police is part of the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform and it is the specialized state institution that exercises its specific attributions on the supervision and the control of crossing the state borders, on the prevention and the fighting against illegal migration and against transborder criminal acts committed in the competence zone, on the observance of the legal regime of the state borders, of passports and foreigners. Romanian Immigration Office is the specialised body of the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform and exerts its specific attributions according to the law for implementing Romania’s policies in the field of migration, asylum, aliens’ integration and of the relevant legislation in these matters. It was set up on 1 July 2007 by re‐organising of the Authority for Aliens and National Refugee Office. Romanian Gendarmerie is the specialised institution of the state, with military status, part of the Ministry of Interior and Administrative Reform, which exerts, under the provisions of the law, its specific duties on defending public order, fundamental rights and liberties of the citizens, public and private property, on preventing and discovering offences or other infringements of the law, as well as on protecting fundamental institutions of the state and on combating terrorism deeds. Community Police is a specialized local public service, set up at the level of Romanian municipalities, towns and Bucharest districts, for the purpose of ensuring public order, as well as for strengthening the efficiency of guarding public and private objectives and property.
