• District Title: 1984, 2005, 2008• State Titles: 2009, 2013
The Program Past and Present
How do I become or return as a Knight?
Reality 15 15 15
36 (-23)= 13
Can freshmen tryout?
Other realities…
• 1. Speed of the game• 2. Size, strength, speed, velocity, etc. of
opponents• 3. Different rates of growth (ex. Late
bloomers)• 4. Performance vs. Projection
• Before we address the physical make-up of a high school player, we must first address some other areas:
Expectations for General Conduct Off Field
• List of players to be emailed to NPHS Staff• All school rules always followed. • HALLS - Think before you act and look at who is around you. Guilty
and guilty by association are the same thing.• IN CLASS – Respectful, Alert, Participatory
– Eligibility and Grades– SCHOOL POLICY NOT THE SAME AS NP BASEBALL POLICY
• SCHOOL – Present AND On Time Everyday – All school rules always followed.
• OUT of SCHOOL – Nothing different than everything above. There is no separation.
• At NPHS Baseball – we take these matters as seriously or more, than what we ever do on the field.
Simple Equation
•F= You don’t do your work•F = You don’t play•No Fs= You can play
General Conduct off the Field
• Twitter, Facebook, etc.Twitter – Top Athlete Mistakes
GETTING ON TWITTER BEFORE GETTING EDUCATEDFORGETTING THEIR AUDIENCEUSE PROFANITY OR DISCUSS R RATED SUBJECTSGETTING BAITED VENTING FRUSTRATION OR ANGERNOT BEING DISCREET WHEN IT COMES TO OTHER PEOPLEBELIEVING THAT DIRECT MESSAGES WILL REMAIN PRIVATE
“AIRING BASEBALL LAUNDARY” ON TWITTER
All of this stuff is nothing but a distraction from your purpose and is not permitted from players on our roster.
• Facebook, snapchat, instagram, etc. etc. etc. - It is very simple.
If it is a picture you would not hang on your Grandmom’s refrigerator, do not put it on
facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.
General Conduct off the ield
Back to the “physical” requirements
• TOP 10 NON-FACTORS IN OUR ROSTER-MAKING PROCESS and PLAYING TIME DETERMINATION
• 1. Player’s middle school batting avg.• 2. Player’s parents’ involvement in fundraising• 3. Which Connie Mack/ Legion team you played for• 4. Whether or not your family is friends with someone on the
coaching staff• 5. Who is in your family’s social circle• 6. If you were a little-league all-star• 7. What your 60 yd time was at a showcase last summer• 8. How many showcases and tournaments you played in• 9. Your religion, race, nationality, etc. • 10. Who your private instructor is
Please remember:
• 1. We have a lot of coaches with a lot of baseball experience and very good track records
• 2. We offer many opportunities for improvement and instruction
• 3. We all want one, simple thing: A SUCCESSFUL, POSITIVE, and PRODUCTIVE EXPERIENCE FOR EVERYONE WHO WEARS THE UNIFORM.
Parents’ Role• Communication Process if needed• Step 1 – Player to Coach• Step 2 – Coach back to player• Step 3 – Player to parent• Step 4 - Parent to Coach on some matters only
• Questions we will not answer: • Why isn’t my son playing?• Why is player X playing?• Why is your lineup that way?
Questions we will be happy to answer:• What skills does my son need to work on, and how can he focus on them?• What can we do about getting the college process started?• How can we get involved in fundraising or supporting the team off
the field?
The Make-Up of a “Team”
• We operate under a simple philosophy:PROGRAM FIRST, ALWAYS.
• What’s good for the TEAM, is good for the individuals.
• We don’t want the 9 best players, we want the best 9. • Success for the program = success for the individual.
PROGRAM FIRST, ALWAYS. * * * TRADITION DOESN’T GRADUATE. * * *
The Make-Up of a “Team”
• Playing as a team from March – June is really not enough.
• Therefore: – Fall Program– Offseason Strength and Conditioning Program– Non-Baseball Team Events– Close Relationship with American Legion programs– Consistent Communication – Offer many opportunities
What should I do in the summer?

The Multi-Sport Athlete
• Do we like it? Yes.• Is it for everyone? No.• Questions to Consider?– Do I make adjustments easily from sport to sport?– Am I able to make significant progress from year
to year in each sport?– Can my body handle the demand?– Am I able to keep my grades in check?
