UNOS Approves Liver Transplantation ProgramSt. Josephs has received approval from theUnited Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) toestablish a liver transplantation program. St.Josephs anticipates the hospitals first livertransplant will occur in autumn of this year.

Jeffrey Brink, MD, will serve as the programssurgical director; Richard Manch, MD, will serveas chief of Hepatology; and Justin Reynolds, MD,will be the medical director. James Cashman,MD; Robert Gish, MD; and Anita Kohli, MD, willbe part of the strong team providing comprehen-sive services to liver transplant patients.

With St. Josephs now providing high-qualitytransplantation services for lung, kidney, andliver, the hospital will be establishing a singleoutpatient center in the McAuley Office Building(500 W. Thomas Rd.) to facilitate the numerouspre- and post-clinical care needs of our trans-plant patients. The center will open later thissummer.

Arizona Center for Digestive Health Joins theSt. Josephs TeamSt. Josephs has signed a contract with ArizonaCenter for Digestive Health to administer careand direction for the hospitals gastroenterologyservices. The group is providing inpatient andER/Trauma GI coverage at the hospital. It willalso help St. Josephs create an outpatient resi-

dent clinic, work to expand the hospitals GI serv-ices, and assist in developing a GI fellowshipprogram while leading research programs. Thegroup will provide support in the establishmentof GI services at The University of Arizona CancerCenter at St. Josephs when it opens later thissummer.

Free-Standing Emergency Room Opens in ChandlerDignity Health Arizona General Hospital has opened its first freestanding emergency room inChandler. Located at 2977 E. Germann Rd., the emergency room is equipped with state-of-the-artdiagnostic equipment and staffed with board-certified physicians and emergency trained nurses.

Dignity Health and Kindred Announce Joint VentureDignity Health and Kindred Healthcare have formed a joint venture, which will construct and operate a50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Chandler. The facility will serve the East Valley where thepopulation continues to grow and is welcome news for patients and their families who need inpatientrehabilitation close to home. Along with helping to meet patient needs, the new hospital will allowDignity Health to assist patients through continuing long-term care to improve patient outcomes.

The new facility, which is expected to open in late 2016, will be called Dignity Health RehabilitationHospital - East Valley. The hospital will be located at 1555 W. Chandler Blvd., which is about a three-minute drive from Chandler Regional. Kindred will own a slight majority in the joint venture and willmanage the day-to-day operations of the new hospital.

Cancer Center Construction CompleteConstruction of The University of Arizona Cancer Center at St. Josephs in downtown Phoenix is nowcomplete. The 213,000-square-foot, five-story facility, which is located at 625 N. 6th St., will openlater this summer. Key dates include:

Thursday, Aug. 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. Physician Open House and Reception Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon Employee and Community Open House Monday, Aug. 24 Open for patient care

Third Avenue Parking Garage Set to Temporarily Close Over the SummerThis summer, St. Josephs will conduct some needed facility and structural work on its Third AvenueGarage (also known as PS 3). Because the work will require large portions of the garage to be closed forlong periods of time, the garage will close to most users over the summer, when patient census typicallydrops and when many hospital employees go on vacation.

Maintenance will begin and the garage will officially close on Monday, June 15, for up to three months.Physicians who already park in this garage may continue to do so, but will be directed to park in differ-ent areas of the garage throughout the closure period to accommodate for repair work. Physicians mayalso have to enter and exit the facility from different locations throughout the construction process.

In addition, the structure will be closed to patients, visitors, employees, and leased partners during thistime. To accommodate patient parking during the closure, extra valet services will staff the Valet ServiceStation thats currently located outside the 240 Building along Merrell Street. In addition, courtesy golfcarts will be deployed to shuttle patients who need assistance getting to the west side of the hospitalcampus. Hospital employees and leased partner parking will be moved to other locations. Parking for St.Josephs Outpatient Surgery (USPI) patients will not move.
